Bedrijfsoverzicht

Genesis Energy, L.P. is a prominent entity within the United States energy landscape, specifically focusing on the midstream segment of the crude oil and natural gas industry. The company's operational scope encompasses three distinct segments: Offshore Pipeline Transportation, Marine Transportation, and Onshore Facilities and Transportation, which collectively facilitate the critical infrastructure required for resource movement. Operating within the broader Energy sector and the specialized Oil & Gas Midstream industry, Genesis Energy serves as a vital intermediary in the supply chain, ensuring efficient logistics between production sites and refining centers. The company maintains a substantial market capitalization of $2.18 billion and generates annual revenue reaching $1.63 billion, supported by a workforce of 1046 employees. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Genesis Energy holds a significant position as a large-cap player, reflecting its extensive operational footprint and its reliance on the cyclical nature of the upstream energy markets to drive top-line growth.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported trailing twelve-month revenue of $1.63 billion, yet it posted a net income loss of $89,664,000, while maintaining a robust EBITDA of $490.26 million. This substantial disparity between revenue and net income reveals a highly leveraged cost structure where significant interest expenses and non-operating charges, rather than operational inefficiencies, are driving the bottom-line deficit. Despite the accounting loss, the company generated positive free cash flow of $132.96 million, which provides essential financial flexibility for servicing debt obligations and potentially funding capital expenditures without immediate external financing. Profitability analysis shows a gross margin of 35.4%, indicating healthy pricing power on core services, an operating margin of 20.4% that reflects efficient management of overheads, but a negative profit margin of -27.0% that underscores the impact of financing costs on shareholder returns. The balance sheet presents a highly leveraged profile with total debt of $3.11 billion against liquid cash of only $6.44 million, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 439.87. Liquidity constraints are further highlighted by a current ratio of 0.98, suggesting that the company's current assets are insufficient to cover its short-term liabilities without relying on asset sales or refinancing. Return on equity stands at 2.7% and return on assets also registers at 2.7%, metrics that, while positive, suggest that the high capital intensity and debt burden significantly dampen the effectiveness of management in generating returns relative to the capital employed.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

Valuation metrics present a complex picture with a trailing P/E ratio listed as N/A due to the current net income loss, contrasted sharply against a forward P/E of 23.75 which implies an expectation of future earnings normalization. The price-to-book ratio is recorded at -6.94, a negative figure that typically indicates a market discount or specific accounting adjustments for intangible assets or liabilities, though in midstream contexts it can reflect the heavy asset base relative to equity. Alternative valuation measures such as a price-to-sales ratio of 1.34 and an EV/EBITDA of 12.87 suggest that the market is pricing the stock based on operational cash generation capabilities rather than current accounting profits. The stock trades within a 52-week range defined by a high of $18.64 and a low of $13.10, placing the current valuation somewhere within this historical volatility band. The beta of 0.73 indicates that the stock exhibits lower price volatility relative to the broader market, suggesting it may offer a degree of defensive characteristics typical of infrastructure-heavy midstream assets during periods of broader market correction.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year stands at 10.5%, demonstrating a resilient expansion in top-line sales, whereas earnings growth is listed as N/A due to the recent financial loss, implying that profitability is lagging behind revenue expansion. The company pays a dividend yield of 4.0%, which is supported by a payout ratio of 176.5%, a figure that exceeds the reported earnings and indicates the dividend is funded by cash flow rather than net income. This high payout ratio relative to earnings suggests that the sustainability of the dividend relies heavily on the strong free cash flow generation rather than accrual-based profits. Overall, the growth and income profile reveals a company that is expanding its revenue base significantly while distributing substantial cash to shareholders, albeit with a balance sheet that requires careful monitoring of debt levels and interest coverage.
