Bedrijfsoverzicht

Southern Copper Corporation is a global leader in the extraction and processing of copper and molybdenum, operating mining, exploration, smelting, and refining facilities across Mexico, the United States, Peru, Brazil, Chile, and other nations in the Americas. The enterprise operates within the Basic Materials sector, specifically the Copper industry, positioning it as a critical supplier of essential industrial metals required for infrastructure and energy transition projects. This multinational entity commands a substantial market capitalization of $159.07 billion and generated total revenue of $13.42 billion over the trailing twelve months. With an employed workforce of 16,617 individuals, the company's scale and geographic footprint indicate a dominant market position that allows for significant operational leverage and extensive resource control.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported revenue of $13.42 billion, net income of $4.33 billion, and EBITDA of $7.90 billion during the trailing twelve-month period. The significant gap between the $13.42 billion in revenue and the $4.33 billion in net income reveals a cost structure where approximately 67.7% of top-line revenue is consumed by costs of goods sold, operating expenses, and taxes before arriving at the bottom line. Free cash flow stands at $3.34 billion, providing the organization with substantial financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures, reduce debt, or acquire new assets without relying on external financing. Gross margin is reported at 60.9%, operating margin at 54.5%, and profit margin at 32.3%, indicating highly efficient cost management and strong pricing power relative to input costs. The balance sheet holds $4.91 billion in cash against $7.41 billion in total debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 66.76 which suggests a leveraged balance sheet typical for capital-intensive mining operations. Liquidity is robust as evidenced by a current ratio of 3.89, implying the company holds nearly four times the current assets needed to cover its short-term liabilities. Return on equity is 42.7% and return on assets is 21.8%, metrics that demonstrate highly effective management in generating substantial returns on shareholder capital and the total asset base.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

The stock trades with a trailing twelve-month P/E ratio of 37.03 and a forward P/E of 32.17, suggesting the market anticipates an acceleration in earnings growth as the forward multiple is lower than the historical trailing multiple. The price-to-book ratio stands at 14.41, indicating that the market values the company at more than fourteen times its net asset value, reflecting a significant premium assigned to its intangible assets, brand, and resource reserves. Alternative valuation metrics include a price-to-sales ratio of 11.85 and an enterprise value to EBITDA of 20.45, which provide context for the stock's valuation relative to its sales generation and operating cash earnings. The 52-week trading range spans from a low of $82.06 to a high of $223.89, and without a specific current share price provided in the source facts, the absolute percentage distance from the high cannot be calculated, though the wide range highlights significant recent volatility. The beta of 1.17 indicates that the stock's price volatility is slightly higher than that of the broader market, moving 17% more than the market index on average during periods of fluctuation.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth is reported at 39.0% year-over-year while earnings growth reaches 60.4% year-over-year, demonstrating that profitability is expanding at a rate significantly faster than top-line sales. This divergence implies that the company is benefiting from operational efficiencies, volume growth, or favorable cost dynamics that are amplifying bottom-line results disproportionately to revenue increases. The company maintains a dividend yield of 2.1% with a payout ratio of 58.4%, a distribution level that appears sustainable given the strong earnings growth and robust free cash flow generation. The high payout ratio relative to the rapid earnings growth suggests that while dividends are being maintained, a large portion of the incremental earnings is being retained to support the capital-intensive nature of the mining business. Overall, the growth and income profile presents a combination of substantial top-line expansion, accelerating earnings per share, and a consistent but moderate dividend yield supported by a healthy balance sheet.
