企業概要

H2O America is a utility enterprise engaged in the production, purchase, storage, purification, distribution, wholesale, and retail sale of water and wastewater services, as well as the supply of groundwater from wells and surface water sources across the United States. This operational focus positions the company firmly within the Utilities sector, specifically the Regulated Water industry, where business models are typically characterized by stable cash flows derived from essential public services and often subject to regulatory oversight. The company operates at a significant scale, boasting a market capitalization of $2.50B and an annual revenue of $800.59M, supported by a workforce of 837 employees. These financial metrics indicate that H2O America functions as a mid-to-large-cap entity within the utility landscape, suggesting a substantial operational footprint and established market presence rather than a niche or emerging player. The combination of multi-billion dollar valuation and hundreds of millions in revenue reflects a mature business structure capable of generating consistent utility-level earnings, albeit with specific margin constraints inherent to the regulated water sector.

財務健全性

The company reported a revenue of $800.59M for the trailing twelve months, with a corresponding net income of $102.58M and an EBITDA of $307.92M. The significant disparity between the $800.59M revenue and the $102.58M net income highlights a substantial cost structure, where operating expenses, including cost of goods sold and general administrative costs, consume a large portion of top-line growth before reaching the bottom line. However, the EBITDA figure of $307.92M suggests that the company maintains robust operating profitability before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, indicating strong underlying cash generation capabilities from core operations. Despite positive EBITDA, the free cash flow stands at $-256,558,496, which signifies a negative cash flow situation where capital expenditures and working capital requirements exceed operational cash inflows, thereby limiting immediate financial flexibility for expansion or debt reduction. The balance sheet shows a cash balance of $20.69M against a total debt load of $1.98B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 128.32, which characterizes the balance sheet as highly leveraged rather than conservative. Furthermore, the current ratio of 0.70 indicates that current assets are insufficient to cover current liabilities, pointing to potential short-term liquidity pressures that must be managed carefully. Return on Equity is 7.1% and Return on Assets is 2.4%, metrics that reveal management effectiveness in generating returns relative to shareholder equity and total asset base, respectively, though the ROA suggests asset efficiency is moderate given the capital-intensive nature of the utility industry.

バリュエーション評価

H2O America trades with a P/E ratio (TTM) of 20.50 and a forward P/E of 21.15, implying that the market expects earnings to remain relatively stable or potentially decline slightly, as the forward multiple is higher than the trailing multiple. The price-to-book ratio is 1.40, indicating that the market values the company at a modest premium over its net asset book value, which is typical for regulated utilities where intangible assets and regulatory rights are not fully captured on the balance sheet. Alternative valuation metrics such as a price-to-sales ratio of 3.13 and an EV/EBITDA of 13.38 provide additional context, suggesting the stock is priced moderately relative to its sales volume and enterprise earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. The 52-week high is $59.87 and the 52-week low is $43.75; without a specific current price provided in the facts, the trading position relative to this range cannot be calculated, but the range itself demonstrates the stock's volatility over the past year. The beta of 0.41 indicates that the stock price is significantly less volatile than the broader market, offering a defensive characteristic often sought by income-focused investors during periods of market uncertainty.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth for the year-over-year period is -1.8%, while earnings growth is -34.4%, revealing that earnings are shrinking at a much faster rate than revenue, which implies deteriorating profitability margins or increased costs that are outpacing top-line declines. The company offers a dividend yield of 2.9% with a payout ratio of 57.5%, and given the negative free cash flow and declining earnings growth, the sustainability of this payout ratio is a critical consideration for investors monitoring cash flow stability. While the dividend provides income, the high payout ratio combined with negative free cash flow suggests the company may need to rely on debt or equity issuance to maintain current dividend levels without compromising financial health. Overall, the growth and income profile presents a trade-off between current yield security and underlying fundamental deterioration, requiring close monitoring of capital expenditure trends and regulatory rate case outcomes to assess future trajectory.
