公司概述

H2O America operates within the Utilities sector, specifically focusing on the Regulated Water industry, providing essential services including the production, purchase, storage, purification, distribution, and wholesale sale of water and wastewater services across the United States. As a regulated utility entity, the company's business model is characterized by stable cash flows derived from essential public infrastructure, though its financial metrics currently reflect a contraction in its operational scale. The company maintains a significant market capitalization of $2.50 billion and employs 837 individuals to support its extensive network of water distribution assets. With annual revenue totaling $800.59 million, these valuation and revenue figures indicate that H2O America holds a substantial position in the regulated water utility market, representing a mid-to-large-cap profile within the broader utilities landscape. The scale of its operations, evidenced by the $2.50 billion market cap and nearly $800 million in revenue, suggests that the company manages a complex asset base requiring significant capital expenditure to maintain infrastructure integrity while serving a large customer base.

财务健康

The company reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $800.59 million and a net income of $102.58 million, resulting in an EBITDA of $307.92 million. The substantial gap between the $800.59 million in revenue and the $102.58 million in net income reveals a cost structure heavily influenced by operating expenses, where the operating margin sits at 19.7% before arriving at a profit margin of 12.8%. While the gross margin remains robust at 57.0%, indicating efficient production relative to direct costs, the decline from gross to operating and then to net profit highlights the impact of significant overheads, depreciation, and interest expenses inherent in utility operations. The company's free cash flow stands at -$256,558,496, which indicates a period of negative liquidity generation likely driven by capital investments or working capital requirements that exceed operational cash inflows in the current period. On the balance sheet, total debt of $1.98 billion significantly outweighs cash reserves of $20.69 million, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 128.32, which characterizes the company's capital structure as highly leveraged rather than conservative. This leverage is further underscored by a current ratio of 0.70, suggesting that the company's current assets are insufficient to cover its current liabilities without relying on new financing or asset sales. Return on Equity stands at 7.1% and Return on Assets is 2.4%, metrics that reveal the efficiency of management in generating profits from shareholders' equity and total assets, respectively, though these returns are moderated by the high debt load and the cyclical nature of revenue growth.

估值评估

The stock trades with a P/E Ratio (TTM) of 20.50 and a Forward P/E of 21.15, implying that the market expects earnings to grow slightly in the future to meet the higher forward multiple, although the difference is marginal. The price-to-book ratio is 1.40, indicating that the market values the company at a 40% premium over its tangible book value, which may reflect the value of its regulated water infrastructure and long-term franchise agreements. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 3.13 and an EV/EBITDA of 13.38 provide additional context, suggesting that the stock is priced in line with historical utility averages despite the negative earnings growth. Price metrics show a 52-week high of $59.87 and a 52-week low of $43.75, providing a trading range within which the current price fluctuates based on market sentiment and sector rotation. The company exhibits a Beta of 0.41, which signifies that its stock price volatility is significantly lower than the broader market, offering a defensive characteristic typical of regulated utility stocks that are less sensitive to general economic downturns.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year stands at -1.8%, while earnings growth year-over-year is -34.4%, indicating that earnings are declining at a much faster rate than revenue, a trend often associated with margin compression or one-time charges impacting the bottom line. The company offers a dividend yield of 2.9% with a payout ratio of 57.5%, suggesting that the current dividend is paid from a portion of earnings, though the high payout ratio in the context of negative earnings growth and negative free cash flow warrants scrutiny regarding its sustainability. Given the negative earnings growth and negative free cash flow, the ability to sustain the dividend without additional capital injection or earnings recovery is limited, as the payout ratio exceeds the threshold typically considered safe for companies with declining earnings. Overall, the growth and income profile presents a complex picture where the company attempts to reward shareholders with a 2.9% yield while navigating significant headwinds in revenue contraction and sharply deteriorating profitability.
