公司概述

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. operates within the utilities sector, specifically focusing on the diversified utilities industry, where it manages a comprehensive portfolio of regulated electric generation, water distribution, wastewater collection, and natural gas utility systems. As a diversified utility operator, the company provides essential energy and water infrastructure services, maintaining a stable operational footprint across multiple utility sub-sectors. The entity employs a workforce of 3,233 individuals and holds a total market capitalization of $4.88 billion, reflecting its substantial presence in the capital markets. With annual revenue reaching $2.43 billion, these valuation and revenue metrics indicate that the company maintains a significant scale within the regulated utility landscape, positioning it as a major player capable of generating substantial cash flows from its extensive asset base.

财务健康

The company reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $2.43 billion and generated a net income of $208.00 million, while its EBITDA stood at $919.70 million. The substantial gap between the $2.43 billion revenue and the $208.00 million net income reveals a significant cost structure burden, where operating expenses and depreciation deductions consume a large portion of gross earnings before arriving at the bottom line. However, the free cash flow figure is reported as $-451,737,504, indicating a negative cash flow position that suggests the company is currently consuming cash rather than generating surplus liquidity for reinvestment or debt reduction. Despite the negative free cash flow, the gross margin stands at 37.9%, the operating margin at 17.8%, and the profit margin at 7.4%, demonstrating that the company maintains healthy pricing power relative to its direct costs, though the final profitability is heavily impacted by fixed utility costs. In terms of balance sheet leverage, the company holds $32.70 million in cash against total debt of $6.56 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 129.95, which characterizes the balance sheet as highly leveraged rather than conservative. Liquidity is assessed via a current ratio of 1.00, which indicates that the company's current assets are roughly equal to its current liabilities, suggesting a tight but manageable short-term liquidity position. Furthermore, the return on equity is 2.6% and the return on assets is 2.1%, metrics that reveal management faces significant challenges in generating high returns on the substantial capital employed in the business.

估值评估

The stock trades with a trailing P/E ratio of 23.41 and a forward P/E of 15.58, implying that the market expects a significant improvement in earnings trajectory to justify the lower forward multiple compared to the historical trailing multiple. The price-to-book ratio is 1.09, indicating that the market values the company at slightly more than its tangible book value, suggesting a modest premium over the underlying asset net worth. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 2.01 and an EV/EBITDA of 13.02 provide additional context, suggesting that while the company is not undervalued relative to sales, its enterprise value relative to cash flow generation aligns with typical utility sector multiples. Price volatility is contained within a 52-week range bounded by a high of $7.11 and a low of $4.45, with the current trading price situated relative to this historical band based on these fixed boundaries. The beta value of 0.89 indicates that the stock exhibits lower price volatility than the broader market, moving less aggressively than the overall equity market index during periods of fluctuation.

Growth & Income

Growth metrics for revenue and earnings are listed as N/A, meaning specific year-over-year growth rates are not currently disclosed in the available data, preventing a direct comparison of earnings growth speed relative to revenue expansion. For dividend payers, the company offers a dividend yield of 4.1% with a payout ratio of 96.3%, a high payout ratio that suggests the company is distributing nearly all of its net income to shareholders, which may limit financial flexibility given the negative free cash flow environment. Since the growth rates are unavailable, the company's strategy appears focused on maintaining yield through high payouts rather than demonstrating rapid earnings expansion comparable to revenue trends. The overall growth and income profile is characterized by a high-yielding dividend supported by a highly leveraged balance sheet rather than by aggressive organic earnings growth or substantial retained earnings for expansion.
