公司概述

Avista Corporation operates as a diversified utility entity within the United States, specifically functioning as an electric and natural gas utility company that serves customers through its primary segments, Avista Utilities and Alaska Electric Light and Power Company (AEL&P). The company is categorized within the Utilities sector and the Utilities - Diversified industry, which implies a business model focused on the regulated distribution of essential energy resources rather than commodity generation volatility. With a market capitalization of $3.47 billion and annual revenue reaching $1.96 billion over the trailing twelve months, Avista represents a mid-sized player in the infrastructure-heavy utility landscape. Although specific employee count data is not disclosed in the available records, the scale of its operations, evidenced by the nearly $2 billion in revenue, indicates a significant operational footprint that spans multiple utility jurisdictions, positioning the firm as a substantial provider of essential energy services.

财务健康

The financial performance of Avista Corporation is characterized by a trailing twelve-month revenue of $1.96 billion, which generated $193.00 million in net income and $645.00 million in EBITDA, highlighting a substantial disparity between top-line sales and bottom-line profit that reflects the heavy cost structure typical of utility operations. This gap between revenue and net income reveals that a significant portion of gross receipts is consumed by cost of goods sold and operating expenses before reaching the equity holders, resulting in a profit margin of 9.8% despite an operating margin of 20.8%. The company's gross margin stands at 64.8%, indicating strong pricing power or efficient cost control on its primary energy sales, while the operating margin of 20.8% suggests effective management of overhead and distribution costs. However, the free cash flow is reported at -$153,000,000, which indicates a net outflow of cash from operations and investing activities, suggesting limited immediate financial flexibility for capital returns or discretionary spending without external financing. On the balance sheet, Avista holds $19.00 million in cash against a total debt load of $3.32 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 122.48% that signifies a highly leveraged position reliant on creditor financing rather than internal equity buffers. The current ratio of 0.83 further underscores potential short-term liquidity constraints, as current assets are insufficient to cover current liabilities without relying on cash flow generation or debt restructuring. Return on equity is calculated at 7.3% and return on assets at 2.7%, metrics that reveal the return generated on shareholder capital and total assets respectively, indicating moderate management effectiveness in utilizing equity to generate profits given the capital-intensive nature of the utility business.

估值评估

Valuation metrics for Avista Corporation show a trailing P/E ratio of 17.68 compared to a forward P/E of 14.88, implying that the market expects earnings growth in the future that would lower the multiple required to justify the current stock price. The price-to-book ratio of 1.28 suggests that the market values the company at a 28% premium over its book value, reflecting intangible assets, brand value, or growth prospects beyond the tangible infrastructure. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 1.77 and an EV/EBITDA of 10.48 provide additional context, indicating that the company trades at a moderate multiple relative to its sales and enterprise earnings power. The stock has traded between a 52-week high of $43.50 and a 52-week low of $35.50, and based on the provided metrics, the valuation implies a price point that sits within this historical range, offering a baseline for assessing current market sentiment. The beta of 0.21 indicates that the stock exhibits very low volatility relative to the broader market, behaving as a defensive holding that moves significantly less than the overall equity market during periods of fluctuation.

Growth & Income

Growth metrics for Avista Corporation show a revenue growth year-over-year of 0.0% and an earnings growth of 2.8%, indicating that earnings are expanding while revenue remains flat, which implies that the company is driving profitability through cost management, rate increases, or operational efficiencies rather than top-line expansion. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 4.7% with a payout ratio of 82.3%, a level that requires careful scrutiny as it is high relative to the profit margin, potentially limiting the ability to sustain the payout if earnings growth does not accelerate. Given the zero revenue growth, the high payout ratio is supported entirely by the 2.8% earnings expansion, meaning the company is relying on margin improvements to fund the dividend rather than cash flow from new sales. Overall, the profile of Avista Corporation combines a defensive, low-volatility utility structure with a high-yield income component, though the lack of revenue growth and high leverage necessitates a focus on operational efficiency to maintain shareholder returns.
