公司概述

The AES Corporation functions as a comprehensive power generation and utility entity, deriving its core value from owning and operating power plants to generate electricity for sale to various customers. This business model places the company firmly within the Utilities sector and the Utilities - Diversified industry, which typically offers stable cash flows but requires significant capital expenditure for infrastructure maintenance and expansion. The company operates at a substantial scale, evidenced by a market capitalization of $10.28B, annual revenue of $12.23B, and a workforce comprising 8,336 employees. These aggregate financial figures indicate that AES holds a significant position within the diversified utility landscape, managing a complex portfolio that spans multiple operational segments including Renewables, Utilities, Energy Infrastructure, and New Energy Technologies to serve a broad customer base.

财务健康

The company reported revenue of $12.23B over the trailing twelve months, generating net income of $939.00M and EBITDA of $3.48B, which highlights a substantial gap between top-line revenue and bottom-line profit that reveals a heavy cost structure involving operational expenses and interest costs. This cost structure is further illuminated by a free cash flow of -$3,086,125,056, indicating that despite generating significant earnings, the company is currently burning cash, which severely limits its immediate financial flexibility for strategic acquisitions or capital returns without external financing. Profitability is reflected in margins ranging from a gross margin of 18.4% down to an operating margin of 16.6% and a profit margin of 7.4%, suggesting that while the business model retains pricing power, significant costs related to fuel, operations, and depreciation erode profitability. The balance sheet presents a highly leveraged profile with total debt of $30.94B against cash reserves of $1.56B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 259.39, which signifies a capital structure heavily reliant on borrowed funds rather than equity. Short-term liquidity is constrained by a current ratio of 0.77, meaning current assets are insufficient to cover current liabilities without relying on operational cash flow or asset sales. Return on equity stands at 2.0% while return on assets is 2.5%, metrics that reveal limited management effectiveness in generating high returns on the substantial capital base employed in utility infrastructure.

估值评估

Valuation metrics show a trailing P/E ratio of 11.00 compared to a forward P/E of 6.04, implying that the market expects earnings growth in the future to significantly compress current valuation multiples or that current earnings are temporarily depressed. The price-to-book ratio of 2.53 indicates that the market prices the company at a premium over its net asset value, reflecting intangible assets or growth prospects not captured on the balance sheet. Alternative valuation perspectives include a price-to-sales ratio of 0.84 and an EV/EBITDA of 13.68, suggesting that the company trades at a discount relative to its sales but commands a moderate multiple relative to its operating cash generation capabilities. Price action shows a 52-week high of $17.65 and a low of $9.46, meaning the current market price sits at a level that reflects recent volatility within this established trading range. The stock exhibits a beta of 1.01, indicating that its price volatility moves in line with the broader market, lacking the defensive characteristics typically associated with lower-beta utility stocks.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth stands at 4.7% year-over-year, while earnings growth is -31.7%, indicating that earnings are growing significantly slower than revenue due to the sharp decline in net income relative to the top line. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 4.9% with a payout ratio of 53.7%, a level that appears sustainable given the current earnings but requires careful monitoring as the payout ratio could expand rapidly if earnings continue to contract. The high dividend yield combined with negative free cash flow creates a tension where the company must rely on debt or asset sales to fund these payouts rather than organic cash generation. Overall, the growth and income profile presents a high-yield opportunity tempered by declining earnings performance and significant liquidity constraints that challenge the sustainability of the current dividend without structural changes.
