Présentation de l'entreprise

J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. operates as a comprehensive provider of surface transportation, delivery, and logistic services throughout the United States, utilizing a diversified business model that spans five distinct segments including intermodal, dedicated contract services, integrated capacity solutions, final mile services, and truckload operations. The company functions within the Industrials sector, specifically targeting the Integrated Freight & Logistics industry, which positions it as a critical infrastructure player essential for moving goods across the domestic economy. As of the latest data, the enterprise commands a market capitalization of $21.39B and generates annual revenue of $12.00B, employing a workforce of 31750 individuals to execute its logistical network. These valuation and revenue figures collectively indicate a substantial market presence, reflecting a mature organization with significant capital deployment capabilities and a dominant position within the competitive landscape of American freight transport.

Santé financière

The company reported a Total Revenue of $12.00B over the trailing twelve months, generating a Net Income of $598.28M and an EBITDA of $1.58B, a disparity that highlights a substantial cost structure where operating expenses consume a significant portion of gross receipts before reaching the bottom line. Free Cash Flow stands at $756.55M, demonstrating robust cash generation capacity that provides the firm with considerable financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures, manage working capital cycles, or pursue strategic acquisitions without relying solely on external financing. The profitability profile is characterized by a Gross Margin of 18.9%, an Operating Margin of 8.0%, and a Profit Margin of 5.0%, where the widening gap between gross and operating margins reflects the high intensity of labor, fuel, and maintenance costs inherent in the transportation industry. On the liability side, the firm holds $17.28M in cash against $1.72B in total debt, resulting in a Debt to Equity ratio of 48.26, which suggests a highly leveraged balance sheet typical for capital-intensive logistics firms but necessitating careful monitoring of interest coverage. Liquidity is constrained by a Current Ratio of 0.83, indicating that short-term assets are insufficient to cover immediate liabilities without access to refinancing or operational cash inflows. Management effectiveness is further quantified by a Return on Equity of 15.8% and a Return on Assets of 6.7%, metrics that reveal the company's ability to generate substantial returns on shareholder capital while maintaining reasonable efficiency in utilizing its total asset base relative to the heavy debt load.

Évaluation de la valorisation

The stock currently trades at a Trailing P/E Ratio of 36.76 and a Forward P/E of 25.50, a significant divergence that implies the market anticipates a substantial acceleration in earnings growth in the coming year, potentially driven by operational leverage or volume expansion that has not yet been fully realized in current periods. The Price to Book ratio stands at 5.96, indicating that the market values the company at nearly six times its tangible book value, suggesting a high premium assigned to its intangible assets, brand strength, and potential for future growth compared to traditional freight peers. Alternative valuation metrics such as the Price to Sales ratio of 1.78 and an EV/EBITDA of 14.53 provide context by showing that the company is priced at a premium relative to its sales volume and enterprise earnings, reflecting investor confidence in its pricing power and margin expansion potential. Price action over the last year has oscillated between a 52-Week High of $236.00 and a 52-Week Low of $122.79, placing the current valuation trajectory within a wide band of historical volatility that reflects both macroeconomic sensitivity and sector-specific supply dynamics. The Beta of 1.22 signifies that the stock exhibits 22% higher volatility than the broader market, indicating that price movements are amplified by market swings, which is consistent with the cyclical nature of the freight sector.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth recorded over the trailing twelve months was -1.6%, while Earnings Growth surged to 23.6%, revealing a decoupling where profitability expanded significantly faster than top-line sales, likely due to cost efficiencies, rate increases, or asset optimization offsetting volume declines. For investors seeking income, the company offers a Dividend Yield of 0.8% supported by a Payout Ratio of 28.8%, a conservative distribution level that leaves ample room for reinvestment and suggests the dividend is well-covered by current earnings despite the recent revenue contraction. The combination of negative revenue growth and positive earnings growth, alongside a low payout ratio and elevated beta, presents a growth-at-a-reasonable-price profile that balances income generation with capital appreciation potential in a highly leveraged, cyclical industrial environment.
