Methodology
How StockVS Works
StockVS combines financial data from established providers with AI-generated analysis to create comprehensive stock and ETF profiles. This page explains our data pipeline, analysis methodology, and quality controls.
Data Collection
Financial data is collected from Yahoo Finance using the yfinance Python library. For stocks, we gather: current and historical prices (OHLCV), market capitalization, P/E ratio, sector and industry classification, dividend yield, and other key statistics. For ETFs, we additionally collect: expense ratios, fund category, total assets, holdings, and multi-year returns.
AI Analysis Generation
Stock and ETF analysis is generated using large language models. Each analysis is grounded in factual data — the AI model receives only verified financial metrics and is instructed to reference only the provided data. The prompts explicitly prohibit the model from inventing statistics, making predictions, or giving investment advice.
Quality Controls
All AI-generated content passes through automated validation including: length checks to ensure appropriate detail, pattern matching to detect hallucinated data or investment advice, and automatic regeneration when content fails validation. Despite these safeguards, errors may occur.
Known Limitations
Market data may be delayed up to 24 hours. Not all financial metrics are available for every stock or ETF. AI-generated analysis may contain errors despite validation. Historical data availability varies by ticker. StockVS does not provide real-time quotes.
Reporting Errors
If you find inaccurate data or problematic AI-generated content, please report it to contact@stockvs.com. We review all reports and correct errors promptly.
