About StockVS

StockVS is a free reference site for stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF) market data. Each security's page shows, where the data exists, its price history, key statistics, returns, dividends and recent news, and securities can be browsed by exchange, sector, industry or fund category or compared on one chart.

StockVS tracks more than 6,400 stock listings in the United States and Canada and more than 1,500 ETFs. Its database holds more than 15 million daily price records, going back to 2016 for the longest-covered securities, and every page is published in 12 languages.

Market data comes from Yahoo Finance through the open-source yfinance library: prices, dividends, company profiles, key statistics, annual income statements and, for ETFs, fund details and top holdings. News headlines come from the Finnhub news service and link to the original articles. StockVS does not own this data; it collects, checks and presents it.

Stock, ETF and listing pages are generated from the database, not written by hand. The analysis on stock and ETF pages is assembled from pre-written sentence templates in each language, filled in with figures from the database; no language model runs when the site is built, and no model writes text about any individual stock or fund. Company descriptions on English stock pages are Yahoo Finance's own summaries.

Market figures are read from the database at every build, never typed in by hand. Automated checks run as data is collected, rejecting for example any price dated on a day the market was closed, and again before each nightly publication, when the finished site is tested for missing values, inconsistent totals and impossible dates. A build that fails is not published.

Prices are collected each trading day after the market close and published the same evening, so pages normally show that day's closing prices; on weekends and market holidays they keep the last session's close. Company profiles and key statistics are refreshed each weekday, ETF holdings weekly and income statements about once a quarter. StockVS shows end-of-day data, not real-time quotes.

An error found by the automated checks or in a review of published pages is corrected where it originates, in the data, a calculation or a template, and the next nightly rebuild carries the correction to every affected page. Corrections are recorded in the project's internal issue tracker. There is currently no public channel for reporting errors.
