회사 개요

Darling Ingredients Inc. is a major participant in the consumer defensive sector, specifically operating within the packaged foods industry where it focuses on sustainability and resource efficiency. The company develops, produces, and sells sustainable natural ingredients derived from both edible and inedible bio-nutrients, serving markets across North America, Europe, China, South America, and international regions. This operational model includes a Feed Ingredients segment that collects and processes animal by-products into non-food grade oils and proteins. Darling Ingredients Inc. holds a substantial market presence with a market capitalization of $9.74B and annual revenue of $6.14B, employing approximately 15,000 individuals to execute its global supply chain strategy. These valuation and revenue metrics indicate that the company commands significant market weight, positioning it as a large-cap entity capable of sustaining operations through diverse geographic and industrial cycles while maintaining a robust workforce.

재무 건전성

The company reported a total revenue of $6.14B over the trailing twelve months, with a net income of $62.80M and an EBITDA of $915.41M. The substantial gap between the $6.14B revenue and the $62.80M net income reveals a cost structure where operating expenses and taxes consume 96.0% of total earnings before interest and taxes, resulting in a very low profit margin of 1.0%. Despite this, the business generates $219.43M in free cash flow, which provides essential financial flexibility for capital allocation, debt servicing, and operational maintenance. The gross margin stands at 24.0%, indicating moderate pricing power relative to the cost of goods sold in its food and feed processing operations. The operating margin of 8.1% suggests that after covering operating expenses, the company retains a small portion of revenue as operating profit, while the profit margin of 1.0% highlights the highly competitive nature of the sector where net income is a fraction of sales. On the balance sheet, Darling Ingredients Inc. holds $88.67M in cash against $4.16B in total debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 86.53, which signifies a highly leveraged financial position rather than a conservative one. The current ratio of 1.50 indicates that the company has sufficient current assets to cover its short-term liabilities with a 50% buffer, suggesting adequate short-term liquidity management. Furthermore, the return on equity of 1.5% and return on assets of 2.5% reveal that management effectiveness in generating returns on the capital base is currently low, reflecting the impact of high debt levels and low net income on overall return metrics.

밸류에이션 평가

The stock trades at a trailing P/E ratio of 157.28 while the forward P/E is significantly lower at 14.92, implying that the market currently prices in a dramatic improvement in future earnings relative to historical performance or that current earnings are depressed due to the recent earnings decline. The price-to-book ratio of 2.05 indicates that the market values the company at more than double its book value, suggesting a premium assigned to its assets or intangible value beyond tangible equity. Additionally, the price-to-sales ratio of 1.59 and an EV/EBITDA of 15.16 provide alternative perspectives on valuation, suggesting that the company is valued moderately on sales but with an enterprise multiple that reflects its high debt load and cash flow generation capabilities. Over the last year, the stock price has fluctuated between a 52-week high of $64.69 and a 52-week low of $26.00, placing the current trading range within a wide band that reflects significant volatility. The beta value of 1.08 indicates that the stock is slightly more volatile than the broader market, moving approximately 8% more than the market index during periods of fluctuation.

Growth & Income

Darling Ingredients Inc. experienced a revenue growth rate of 20.6% year-over-year, while earnings growth declined by 44.6% year-over-year. This divergence implies that revenue expansion is outpacing profitability growth, a common scenario in highly leveraged or cyclical businesses where top-line gains are eroded by fixed costs or debt servicing. The company does not pay dividends, as evidenced by a dividend yield of N/A and a payout ratio of 0.0%, meaning the company reinvests all available earnings back into the business to fuel growth initiatives or reduce debt rather than distributing cash to shareholders. Consequently, the overall growth and income profile is characterized by aggressive revenue expansion paired with a lack of current income distribution, relying entirely on capital appreciation or future earnings stabilization to provide value to equity holders.
