Descripción de la empresa

Hub Group, Inc. operates as a provider of supply chain solutions, delivering transportation and logistics management services throughout North America through its specific business segments. The company functions within the Industrials sector and the Integrated Freight & Logistics industry, positioning it as a key player in the movement of goods across the continent. Its scale is defined by a market capitalization of $2.27 billion and an annual revenue of $3.73 billion, supported by an employee base of 6,604 individuals. These valuation and revenue metrics indicate that Hub Group holds a significant footprint in the logistics market, though its current market cap relative to its revenue suggests a specific investor perception of its future cash generation potential compared to its historical earnings power.

Salud financiera

The company reported revenue of $3.73 billion over the trailing twelve months, generating net income of $104.97 million and EBITDA of $332.96 million, revealing a substantial gap between top-line revenue and bottom-line profit that highlights a cost structure heavily influenced by operational expenses and logistics costs. The generation of free cash flow at $59.15 million provides the company with a degree of financial flexibility to fund operations or pursue strategic initiatives, despite the modest absolute amount relative to total revenue. Profitability is further detailed by a gross margin of 11.4%, an operating margin of 4.2%, and a profit margin of 2.8%, indicating that for every dollar of revenue, only a small fraction remains after covering the direct costs of freight, fuel, and administrative overhead. On the balance sheet, the company holds $119.70 million in cash against $498.76 million in debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 28.41 which signifies a leveraged capital structure rather than a conservative stance. Liquidity is supported by a current ratio of 1.47, suggesting the firm possesses sufficient short-term assets to cover its current liabilities without immediate distress. Management effectiveness is measured by a return on equity of 6.2% and a return on assets of 3.2%, figures that reflect the efficiency with which the company utilizes shareholder capital and total assets to generate profits in a capital-intensive industry.

Evaluación de valoración

Valuation metrics show a trailing P/E ratio of 21.28 compared to a forward P/E of 18.49, implying that the market expects earnings to grow in the future to justify the lower multiple on upcoming projections. The price-to-book ratio stands at 1.33, indicating that the stock trades at a modest premium over its book value, which is typical for established logistics firms with significant tangible assets. Alternative valuation lenses include a price-to-sales ratio of 0.61 and an EV/EBITDA of 8.10, suggesting the stock is priced at a fraction of its sales revenue and at a multiple that may be attractive relative to industry peers. The stock has historically traded between a 52-week high of $53.26 and a 52-week low of $30.75, with the current price situated within this historical range reflecting market volatility and sentiment shifts. The beta of 1.16 indicates that the stock exhibits price volatility slightly higher than the broader market, meaning it tends to amplify market movements during periods of economic expansion or contraction.

Growth & Income

The company experienced a revenue decline of 5.3% year-over-year while achieving a significant earnings growth of 20.5%, demonstrating that earnings are expanding at a rate much faster than revenue, likely driven by cost controls or operational efficiencies. As a dividend payer, Hub Group offers a dividend yield of 1.4% with a payout ratio of 28.7%, a low payout level that appears highly sustainable given the strong earnings growth and provides room to increase dividends over time. This combination of declining revenue but rising earnings and a conservative dividend policy creates a specific income profile where total shareholder return relies heavily on capital appreciation or dividend growth rather than immediate yield.
