Análisis

Descripción de la empresa

Donaldson Company, Inc. operates as a global manufacturer and distributor of filtration systems and replacement parts, serving a diverse range of industries through specialized engineering solutions. The enterprise functions within the Industrials sector, specifically categorized under Specialty Industrial Machinery, which signifies its focus on providing essential equipment and components critical to industrial operations. This financial profile reflects a substantial scale, with a market capitalization of $9.71B, annual revenue of $3.75B, and an extensive workforce of 15,000 employees. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that the company holds a significant position in its market, demonstrating the ability to generate substantial top-line growth while maintaining a large operational footprint. The combination of a nearly $10 billion market cap and revenue exceeding $3 billion suggests that the company is a major player capable of influencing industry standards and securing a robust foothold in the filtration market.

Salud financiera

The company's financial performance over the trailing twelve months is defined by a total revenue of $3.75B, net income of $378.50M, and EBITDA of $666.40M. The substantial gap between the $3.75B revenue and the $378.50M net income reveals a cost structure where operating expenses, including cost of goods sold, taxes, and interest, consume approximately 90% of total sales, leaving a profit margin of 10.1%. Free cash flow stands at $252.96M, which indicates a strong capacity for the company to fund capital expenditures, repay debt, or pursue strategic acquisitions without relying on external financing. When analyzing profitability efficiency, the gross margin of 34.6% demonstrates healthy pricing power and cost control in production, while the operating margin of 13.6% and profit margin of 10.1% reflect the effectiveness of overhead management and tax environments. The balance sheet presents a conservative leverage profile with cash reserves of $194.40M against total debt of $680.80M, supported by a debt-to-equity ratio of 43.22. Liquidity is robust as evidenced by a current ratio of 2.29, indicating that current assets are more than double current liabilities and providing a comfortable buffer against short-term obligations. Furthermore, return on equity of 24.3% and return on assets of 11.8% highlight highly effective management in generating returns on the capital invested by shareholders and utilized across the company's asset base.

Evaluación de valoración

Valuation multiples for Donaldson Company, Inc. show a trailing P/E ratio of 26.21 and a forward P/E of 19.14. The significant difference between the trailing and forward multiples implies that the market anticipates a material improvement in earnings trajectory over the coming year, suggesting expected earnings growth will outpace current performance. The price-to-book ratio is recorded at 6.17, which indicates a substantial market premium over the company's book value, reflecting intangible assets, brand strength, and future growth expectations that are not captured on the balance sheet. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 2.59 and an EV/EBITDA of 15.31 provide additional context, suggesting that the stock is priced at a premium relative to both sales and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. Price metrics show a 52-week high of $112.84 and a 52-week low of $57.45, meaning the stock has experienced significant volatility within this trading range. The beta value of 1.04 indicates that the stock's price volatility moves in tandem with the broader market, presenting neither significant defensive characteristics nor aggressive outperformance relative to the index.

Growth & Income

Growth metrics display a revenue growth rate of 3.0% year-over-year while earnings growth stands at -1.3% year-over-year. The fact that earnings are growing slower than revenue, or in this specific case declining slightly while revenue expands, implies that the company is currently facing cost pressures or margin compression that are offsetting top-line expansion. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 1.4% with a payout ratio of 36.6%. This payout ratio is highly sustainable given the company's earnings generation, as retaining the majority of profits allows for continued reinvestment in the business while still rewarding shareholders. The overall growth and income profile suggests a mature business model that prioritizes consistent dividend distribution and operational efficiency over rapid expansion, aligning with the characteristics of an industrials leader in the filtration space.
