The company operates through the Athabasca (Thermal Oil) and Duvernay Energy segments. The Athabasca segment focuses on the exploration, development, and production of bitumen from sand and carbonate rock formations located in the Athabasca region of Northern Alberta. Its Duvernay Energy segment engages in the exploration, development, and production of light crude oil and medium crude oil, tight oil, conventional natural gas, shale gas, and NGLs located primarily in the Greater Kaybob area near the town of Fox Creek, Alberta. The company was formerly known as Athabasca Oil Sands Corp. and changed its name to Athabasca Oil Corporation in May 2012. Athabasca Oil Corporation was incorporated in 2006 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
