公司概述
Mercer International Inc. operates as a manufacturer and seller of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) and northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK) pulp, serving markets in the United States, Germany, China, and various international locations through its Pulp and Solid Wood segments. The company functions within the Basic Materials sector, specifically targeting the Paper & Paper Products industry, which implies a focus on raw material production for downstream manufacturing and consumer packaging needs. As of the latest reporting period, the entity possesses a market capitalization of $87.08M and employs a workforce of 3,545 individuals to support its operational capabilities. Despite generating annual revenue of $1.87B, the relatively modest market cap suggests that the market values the company primarily on its asset base and cash holdings rather than on earnings multiples, reflecting the significant losses and high leverage currently impacting its valuation model.
财务健康
The company reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $1.87B, yet it recorded a net income loss of $497,888,992, indicating a severe disconnect between top-line sales and bottom-line profitability driven by high cost structures or significant operating expenses. EBITDA stands at $-19,913,000, further confirming that core operational cash generation before interest and taxes is currently negative. Free cash flow is negative at $-41,798,876, which signals a lack of financial flexibility and an inability to fund capital expenditures or debt servicing from internal operations without external financing. The gross margin stands at 4.9%, while the operating margin is -13.9% and the profit margin is -26.7%, revealing that the company struggles to cover its operating costs and that every dollar of revenue results in a substantial loss after all expenses including interest and taxes. On the balance sheet, the company holds $186.80M in cash against a total debt load of $1.63B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 2388.72, which characterizes the balance sheet as highly leveraged and vulnerable to interest rate fluctuations or credit tightening. However, the current ratio of 3.05 suggests that the company maintains adequate short-term liquidity to meet its immediate obligations, potentially offset by asset liquidation or refinancing. Return on Equity is -200.0% and Return on Assets is -5.2%, metrics that indicate management is currently destroying shareholder value and failing to generate returns on the capital deployed in assets.
估值评估
The trailing twelve-month P/E ratio is listed as N/A due to the net loss, whereas the forward P/E is negative at -1.60, implying that the market expects earnings to remain negative or for losses to persist in the near term. The price-to-book ratio is 1.28, suggesting that the stock trades at a slight premium relative to its tangible book value, which is an unusual valuation for a company with such significant losses and negative earnings. The price-to-sales ratio is 0.05, and the EV/EBITDA is -76.63, indicating that traditional valuation metrics are distorted by the company's financial distress and that investors are pricing the stock based on asset liquidation or turnaround potential rather than earnings power. The 52-week high is $5.68 and the 52-week low is $1.23, meaning the current trading price sits significantly below the yearly peak but above the floor of the range. The beta is 0.78, which indicates that the stock's price volatility is lower than the broader market, suggesting it may move less aggressively during periods of general market fluctuation.
Growth & Income
Year-over-year revenue growth is -8.0%, while earnings growth is N/A due to the absence of prior year positive earnings for comparison, indicating that the company is contracting in terms of sales volume and struggling to stabilize profitability. The dividend yield is 16.0% with a payout ratio of 15.7%, a combination that appears unsustainable given the negative net income and negative free cash flow, as dividends cannot be reliably funded from earnings. Since the company reports a net loss, it technically does not pay dividends from retained earnings in a traditional sense, and the high yield likely reflects a suspension of dividends or a payout from cash reserves that is not supported by operational performance. Overall, the growth and income profile is characterized by declining revenue, negative earnings generation, and a dividend structure that poses significant risk to shareholders given the underlying financial deterioration.
