公司概述
CSX Corporation operates primarily within the Industrials sector, specifically focusing on the Railroads industry, providing essential rail-based freight transportation services across the United States and Canada through its rail and trucking segments. The company manages the movement of intermodal containers and trailers alongside other transport solutions, forming a critical infrastructure component for supply chain logistics. With a substantial market capitalization of $79.03 billion and annual revenue reaching $14.09 billion, the entity demonstrates significant economic weight in the transportation landscape. The presence of approximately 23,000 employees underscores the operational scale required to maintain extensive rail networks and support diverse freight operations. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that CSX holds a dominant position within the regional freight market, reflecting its established role as a major provider of freight mobility services.
财务健康
The company generated total revenue of $14.09 billion in the trailing twelve months, with net income of $2.89 billion and EBITDA of $6.42 billion, highlighting a significant gap between top-line revenue and bottom-line profit that reveals a substantial cost structure encompassing fuel, labor, and maintenance expenses. This cost structure is further illuminated by a gross margin of 45.6%, an operating margin of 32.7%, and a profit margin of 20.5%, where the latter two metrics indicate the efficiency of core operations and the company's ability to retain earnings after covering all costs including interest and taxes. Free cash flow stands at $970.50 million, which provides the organization with considerable financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures, service debt obligations, or return capital to shareholders without compromising operational liquidity. On the balance sheet, cash holdings of $675.00 million are weighed against total debt of $19.51 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 148.22%, which characterizes the financial structure as highly leveraged rather than conservative. The current ratio is recorded at 0.81, suggesting that short-term liquid assets are currently insufficient to cover immediate liabilities without relying on asset sales or external financing. Return on Equity measures at 22.5% and Return on Assets at 6.9%, metrics that collectively reveal the effectiveness of management in generating profits relative to shareholder equity and total asset bases, respectively.
估值评估
The trailing twelve-month P/E ratio is 27.59, while the forward P/E is 20.31, implying that the market expects earnings to expand significantly in the future to justify the higher current multiple compared to the forward projection. The price-to-book ratio stands at 6.01, indicating that the stock trades at a significant premium over its book value, reflecting high intangible assets, brand strength, or investor expectations of future cash flows rather than tangible net worth. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 5.61 and an EV/EBITDA of 15.23 provide additional context, suggesting the company is valued at a premium relative to its revenue generation and earnings power before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. The stock has traded within a 52-week range between a low of $26.29 and a high of $43.35, with the current price trading at approximately 41.5% below the 52-week high, which places the security in the lower to middle portion of its recent trading band. The beta value is 1.25, meaning the stock exhibits price volatility that is 25% higher than the broader market, indicating that CSX shares are more sensitive to market-wide fluctuations than the average equity security.
Growth & Income
Revenue growth year-over-year is recorded at -0.9%, while earnings growth year-over-year is -0.4%, indicating that earnings are shrinking slightly faster than revenue, which implies ongoing pressure on margins or a decoupling of profitability from top-line sales performance in the recent period. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 1.3% with a payout ratio of 33.8%, a level that appears sustainable given the earnings coverage, although the recent negative growth dynamics require monitoring to ensure future dividend stability. The negative growth rates suggest a cyclical or transitional phase in the freight sector rather than a structural decline in demand, as the company maintains steady profitability despite the slight contraction in both revenue and earnings metrics. Overall, the growth and income profile reflects a mature industrial asset characterized by moderate income distribution and low single-digit or slight negative growth rates typical of established infrastructure plays facing temporary headwinds.
