Analyse

Bedrijfsoverzicht

UFP Industries, Inc. is a manufacturer and supplier of wood and non-wood composite materials that serves both domestic and international markets. The corporation operates within the Basic Materials sector, specifically targeting the Lumber & Wood Production industry, a segment characterized by the processing of natural resources into construction and industrial supplies. The company maintains a significant operational scale, employing approximately 13,800 individuals to support its manufacturing and distribution networks across three distinct business segments: Retail, Construction, and Packaging. With a market capitalization of $5.42B and annual revenues reaching $6.32B, the financial figures indicate that UFP Industries holds a substantial position within the materials industry, reflecting a large-scale operation capable of influencing supply chain dynamics for treated wood and composites.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported trailing twelve-month revenues of $6.32B, with a corresponding net income of $283.70M and an EBITDA of $526.08M. The substantial gap between the revenue figure and the net income reveals a cost structure where operating expenses, including the cost of goods sold and administrative costs, absorb more than 95% of total sales before reaching the bottom line. Free cash flow stands at $117.39M, which signifies a positive level of financial flexibility allowing the firm to meet obligations, fund operations, or invest in capital expenditures without relying solely on external financing. Profitability analysis shows a gross margin of 16.8%, an operating margin of 4.1%, and a profit margin of 4.7%, indicating that while the company retains a healthy portion of sales after direct material costs, the final profitability after all expenses is compressed. The balance sheet presents $948.57M in cash against $356.84M in debt, supported by a debt-to-equity ratio of 11.55, suggesting a leveraged capital structure where the company carries more debt relative to its equity than a conservative benchmark might suggest. Short-term liquidity is robust, evidenced by a current ratio of 4.59, which indicates the ability to cover current liabilities nearly five times over with available current assets. Return metrics reveal a return on equity of 9.3% and a return on assets of 5.6%, showing that management generates a moderate return on the shareholders' investment and utilizes the company's asset base with standard efficiency for the industry.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

Valuation multiples for UFP Industries include a trailing P/E ratio of 19.10 and a forward P/E of 15.51, implying that the market expects earnings to grow significantly in the coming year to bridge the gap between current and future price expectations. The price-to-book ratio is recorded at 1.76, indicating that the stock trades at a 76% premium over its book value, which suggests the market values the company's brand, intangible assets, or growth prospects above the simple replacement cost of its net assets. Alternative valuation metrics such as a price-to-sales ratio of 0.86 and an EV/EBITDA of 9.20 provide additional context, suggesting the company is valued slightly below one dollar of revenue per dollar of sales and at a reasonable multiple of its operating earnings relative to enterprise value. Price momentum analysis shows a 52-week high of $118.00 and a 52-week low of $84.82, establishing a trading range where the stock's volatility is contained within these bounds over the past year. The beta value of 1.44 indicates that the stock price tends to be 44% more volatile than the broader market, meaning the equity price will likely experience larger swings in both upward and downward directions compared to a benchmark index like the S&P 500.

Growth & Income

Recent performance data indicates a revenue growth rate of -9.0% year-over-year and an earnings growth rate of -39.7% year-over-year. The decline in earnings is occurring at a much faster rate than the decline in revenue, which implies that cost pressures, margin compression, or one-time charges are disproportionately impacting profitability compared to top-line sales volume. As a dividend-paying entity, the company offers a dividend yield of 1.5% with a payout ratio of 28.0%, and this low payout ratio suggests a high degree of sustainability given the company's earnings generation, leaving ample room to maintain or increase dividends even if earnings fluctuate. The overall growth and income profile characterizes UFP Industries as a mature, cyclical business currently experiencing a contraction in profitability that is steeper than its revenue decline, while maintaining a conservative dividend policy that prioritizes capital retention over aggressive share repurchases or payout hikes.
