Bedrijfsoverzicht

Olin Corporation is a manufacturer and distributor of chemical products with a global footprint spanning the United States, Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, India, Latin America, and Canada. The company operates through three primary business segments: Chlor Alkali Products and Vinyls, Epoxy, and Winchester, providing essential chemical solutions across diverse industrial applications. Olin functions within the Basic Materials sector, specifically under the Chemicals industry, where it serves as a supplier of foundational materials required for manufacturing processes in various downstream industries. As of the latest data, the company holds a market capitalization of $3.30 billion, generates annual revenue of $6.78 billion, and employs 7849 individuals. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Olin operates as a mid-to-large-cap entity with significant operational scale, positioning it as a substantial player in the global chemical supply chain.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported a total revenue of $6.78 billion over the trailing twelve months, yet it posted a net income of -$100,500,000, while EBITDA stood at $654.90 million. The substantial gap between the positive EBITDA and the negative net income reveals a cost structure heavily impacted by significant interest expenses and other non-operating charges that erode bottom-line profitability. Despite the accounting losses, Olin maintains strong financial flexibility with a free cash flow of $373.02 million, which demonstrates the ability to generate cash from operations sufficient to cover capital expenditures and potentially service debt. The firm currently holds $167.60 million in cash assets against a total debt load of $3.14 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 167.83 that characterizes a highly leveraged balance sheet rather than a conservative one. Profitability metrics further reflect this pressure, with a gross margin of 7.4%, an operating margin of -3.5%, and a profit margin of -1.5%, indicating that operating costs and interest burdens are consuming a significant portion of revenue. Liquidity analysis shows a current ratio of 1.21, suggesting the company possesses adequate short-term assets to cover its immediate liabilities, though with limited buffer. Return on Equity stands at -5.1% and Return on Assets is 1.1%, metrics that collectively reveal management effectiveness is currently challenged by the inability to generate returns on shareholder capital and assets due to the prevailing losses.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

Valuation metrics for Olin present a complex picture, with a trailing P/E ratio listed as N/A due to the negative net income, while the forward P/E is projected at 31.84. This disparity between the undefined trailing multiple and the high forward multiple implies that the market is pricing in a significant expected turnaround in earnings trajectory over the coming fiscal year. The stock trades at a price-to-book ratio of 1.79, which indicates a market premium over the company's book value despite current accounting losses, suggesting investors anticipate future value creation. Alternative valuation measures include a price-to-sales ratio of 0.49 and an EV/EBITDA of 9.61, figures that suggest the stock is priced conservatively relative to its sales and operating cash generation capabilities when excluding interest and tax effects. In terms of trading range, the 52-week high is $30.46 and the 52-week low is $18.08. Without a specific current share price provided in the available facts, the exact percentage deviation from these bounds cannot be calculated, but the range establishes the volatility floor and ceiling for the investment. The stock exhibits a beta of 1.37, which means its price volatility is 37% higher than the broader market, reflecting the cyclical nature of the chemical industry and sensitivity to raw material price fluctuations.

Growth & Income

Growth dynamics for Olin show a revenue growth of -0.4% year over year, while earnings growth is N/A due to the reported net loss. The negative revenue growth indicates a contraction in top-line sales, and since earnings are negative, there is no positive earnings growth to outpace revenue decline. Regarding income distribution, the company offers a dividend yield of 2.8% with a payout ratio of 173.9%. This payout ratio exceeds 100%, indicating that the dividend is being funded from cash flows rather than current earnings, which raises questions regarding its long-term sustainability given the negative net income. The overall growth and income profile for Olin is characterized by declining revenue, a lack of current earnings generation, and a dividend yield that relies on cash flow preservation rather than profit distribution.
