Bedrijfsoverzicht

Nucor Corporation is a major manufacturer and distributor specializing in the production and sale of various steel and steel products. The company operates within the Basic Materials sector, specifically targeting the Steel industry, which is fundamental to construction, automotive, and infrastructure development. With a substantial market capitalization of $42.39B and annual revenue reaching $32.49B, Nucor employs approximately 33,000 workers across its operations. These financial figures indicate that the company holds a significant position within the basic materials landscape, managing a vast industrial footprint that supports critical economic sectors through its diverse steel product lines.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $32.49B, generating net income of $1.74B and an EBITDA of $4.14B. The substantial gap between the total revenue figure and the net income reveals a cost structure where operating expenses, including cost of goods sold, taxes, and interest, consume a significant portion of top-line sales before reaching the bottom line. Free cash flow stands at -$903,374,976, indicating that current cash outflows for capital expenditures exceed operating cash generation, which suggests a period of heavy reinvestment or cyclical maintenance spending impacting immediate financial flexibility. The gross margin is 12.0%, while the operating margin sits at 6.9% and the profit margin is 5.4%; these metrics collectively demonstrate that the company retains a moderate percentage of sales as profit after covering production costs and operational overhead. On the balance sheet, Nucor holds $2.70B in cash against $7.25B in total debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 32.77, which points to a leveraged capital structure typical for capital-intensive steel manufacturing rather than a conservative cash-rich stance. Liquidity is robust with a current ratio of 2.94, signifying that the company possesses nearly three times the current assets necessary to cover its short-term liabilities without difficulty. Return on Equity stands at 9.4% and return on assets is 4.8%, metrics that reflect the efficiency with which management utilizes shareholder equity and total assets to generate profits within the constraints of the heavy industrial sector.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

The stock trades with a trailing twelve-month P/E ratio of 24.75 and a forward P/E of 13.40, implying that the market expects earnings growth to significantly outpace the current profitability levels over the coming year. The price-to-book ratio is 2.03, indicating that the market values the company at more than double its book value, reflecting confidence in the quality of its assets and future earning potential. Additional valuation metrics show a price-to-sales ratio of 1.30 and an EV/EBITDA of 11.63, suggesting that the company is priced at a premium relative to its sales and enterprise earnings compared to the broader industrial average. The stock has traded between a 52-week low of $105.92 and a high of $196.90, meaning the current valuation sits well within the recent trading range but remains below the annual peak. The beta of 1.75 indicates that the stock's price volatility is substantially higher than that of the broader market, moving with increased intensity during periods of economic fluctuation or sector-specific news.

Growth & Income

Nucor achieved a revenue growth rate of 8.6% year-over-year while earnings growth accelerated to 34.2%, demonstrating that profitability is expanding at a much faster pace than top-line sales, likely driven by improved pricing power or margin expansion. The company offers a dividend yield of 1.2% with a payout ratio of 29.4%, a conservative distribution level that suggests the dividend is highly sustainable given the robust earnings growth and the ability to retain most profits for reinvestment. This low payout ratio allows the firm to maintain a healthy balance sheet while providing a modest income stream to shareholders alongside capital appreciation potential. Overall, the combination of double-digit earnings expansion, a conservative debt profile, and a modest but secure dividend yield defines a growth-oriented income profile suitable for investors seeking exposure to the steel sector with a focus on profitability trends.
