Bedrijfsoverzicht

IDACORP, Inc. is a utility entity dedicated to the generation, transmission, distribution, purchase, and sale of electric energy within the United States. The company's operational footprint includes seventeen hydropower generating plants situated in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon, alongside three natural gas-fired plants. This specific business model places IDACORP within the Utilities sector, specifically operating in the Regulated Electric industry, which implies earnings stability derived from regulated rates and essential service obligations. The company demonstrates a substantial scale with a market capitalization of $8.17B and total annual revenue of $1.81B, supported by an employee base of 2174 individuals. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that IDACORP holds a significant position in the regional electricity market, serving as a major infrastructure provider with assets valued in the multi-billion dollar range.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported total revenue of $1.81B and generated net income of $323.47M over the trailing twelve months, while achieving an EBITDA of $606.39M. The disparity between the $1.81B revenue figure and the $323.47M net income reveals a substantial cost structure involving operational expenses, taxes, and interest charges that consume the majority of top-line revenue before reaching the bottom line. Free cash flow stands at -$738,809,472, which indicates a current period of negative liquidity generation, often seen in utility companies during heavy capital expenditure cycles for infrastructure maintenance or expansion. Despite the negative free cash flow, the company maintains a cash balance of $215.72M, though this is significantly outweighed by total debt of $3.67B. The debt-to-equity ratio of 102.56 suggests a highly leveraged balance sheet, where debt obligations exceed total equity, reflecting the capital-intensive nature of the utility business model. A current ratio of 0.93 indicates that current assets fall slightly short of current liabilities, pointing to potential liquidity constraints in meeting short-term obligations without relying heavily on external financing or asset liquidation. Return on equity is recorded at 9.4%, while return on assets is 2.2%, metrics that reveal the company generates modest returns on its substantial asset base and relies heavily on shareholder equity to fund operations.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

The trailing twelve-month P/E ratio is 25.01, whereas the forward P/E stands at 21.30. The difference between these two multiples implies that the market expects earnings growth that will allow the stock to trade at a lower multiple in the future compared to current historical performance. The price-to-book ratio is 2.27, indicating that the market values the company at more than double its book value, suggesting a premium assigned to its regulated asset base and future cash flow potential. Alternative valuation metrics include a price-to-sales ratio of 4.51 and an EV/EBITDA of 19.06, which provide context for the company's valuation relative to its revenue generation and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. The 52-week high is $149.73 and the 52-week low is $108.15, placing the current trading range within a wide historical band that reflects the cyclical nature of utility stock pricing. The beta value of 0.54 indicates that the stock exhibits lower volatility relative to the broader market, moving less than half as much as the general equity index during periods of market fluctuation.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year is 1.8%, while earnings growth year-over-year is 11.7%. The fact that earnings growth significantly outpaces revenue growth implies improved operational efficiency or margin expansion, as the company generates income at a faster rate than it increases sales volume. As a utility company, IDACORP pays a dividend yield of 2.4% with a payout ratio of 58.6%. This payout ratio is generally considered sustainable given the consistent earnings profile of regulated utilities, allowing the company to return capital to shareholders while retaining sufficient funds for operations. The combination of modest revenue growth and strong earnings growth, coupled with a reliable dividend yield, creates a profile typical of income-focused utility investments that prioritize stability over high growth rates.
