분석

회사 개요

WEC Energy Group, Inc. operates within the United States market by providing regulated natural gas and electricity services alongside renewable and nonregulated renewable energy solutions through various subsidiaries. The enterprise functions specifically within the Utilities sector and the Regulated Electric industry, a classification that denotes businesses subject to government regulation regarding rates and service obligations to ensure stability for consumers. This utility giant maintains a substantial operational footprint employing 7,151 individuals across its diverse business units including Wisconsin, Illinois, other states, electric transmission, and non-utility energy infrastructure segments. With a total market capitalization of $38.20B and annual revenue reaching $9.80B, the company demonstrates a significant presence in the energy landscape. These financial dimensions indicate that WEC is a large-cap entity with a mature revenue base, reflecting its established role as a primary provider of essential energy services rather than a speculative high-growth startup.

재무 건전성

The company reported a revenue of $9.80B over the trailing twelve months, generating a net income of $1.56B and an EBITDA of $3.87B during the same period. The substantial gap between the $9.80B revenue and the $1.56B net income reveals a cost structure heavily influenced by operating expenses and taxes, as well as the specific accounting treatment of regulated assets common in the utility sector. Free cash flow stands at $-2,139,337,472, which indicates a significant cash outflow relative to earnings, a scenario often seen in capital-intensive regulated utilities where heavy investment in infrastructure maintenance and expansion exceeds operating cash generation in the short term. Gross margin is recorded at 42.4%, reflecting the high proportion of revenue remaining after direct costs of goods sold, which is typical for the electricity and gas distribution model. Operating margin sits at 21.3%, while profit margin is 15.9%, collectively showing that for every dollar of revenue, the company retains approximately 16 cents as profit after all operating and non-operating expenses are deducted. The balance sheet shows a cash position of $27.60M against total debt of $22.39B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 159.33, which signifies a highly leveraged balance sheet typical of utility companies that finance long-term infrastructure with significant debt loads. The current ratio is 0.59, indicating that the company's current assets are less than its current liabilities, suggesting tight short-term liquidity conditions that rely on steady cash flows from operations to meet obligations. Return on equity is 11.6% and return on assets is 3.0%, metrics that reveal the company generates modest returns on its substantial asset base but creates a more robust return specifically for shareholders despite the high leverage.

밸류에이션 평가

The stock trades with a trailing twelve-month P/E ratio of 24.33 and a forward P/E of 19.52, implying that the market expects earnings growth in the future to lower the valuation multiple as investors price in anticipated improvements in profitability. The price-to-book ratio stands at 2.80, indicating that the market values the company at a significant premium of nearly three times its tangible book value, reflecting intangible assets, brand value, or regulated franchise worth more than the physical assets alone. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 3.90 and an EV/EBITDA of 15.77 suggest that the company is valued higher than its sales generation relative to pure earnings power, a common characteristic for regulated monopolies with stable cash flows. The stock has traded between a 52-week high of $118.53 and a 52-week low of $100.61, with the current trading range necessitating calculation of its position relative to these historical extremes to understand recent momentum. The beta value is 0.53, which indicates that the stock price is significantly less volatile than the broader market, moving with only about half the intensity of the overall market index during periods of fluctuation.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year is 11.1%, while earnings growth year-over-year is -32.5%, revealing that earnings are currently shrinking at a much faster rate than revenue, likely due to regulatory adjustments, fuel cost pass-throughs, or one-time charges impacting the bottom line. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 3.2% with a payout ratio of 74.2%, a figure that requires careful monitoring given the negative earnings growth, as sustaining such a high payout while earnings contract may strain financial flexibility over time. The divergence between positive revenue expansion and negative earnings contraction suggests that operational efficiency or regulatory headwinds are currently compressing profit margins despite increased sales volume. Overall, the company presents a profile of a mature utility with strong revenue traction and a substantial dividend yield, yet it faces challenges in translating that revenue growth into proportional earnings growth and maintaining a highly leveraged capital structure.
