公司概述

United Rentals, Inc. operates as a major equipment rental company serving markets across the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, providing machinery and tools primarily through its General Rentals and Specialty segments. The company is classified within the Industrials sector and specifically functions in the Rental & Leasing Services industry, facilitating capital efficiency for contractors and businesses by supplying essential operational assets without requiring upfront ownership costs. On a global scale, the firm manages a substantial workforce of 28,500 employees and holds a market capitalization of $47.92B, reflecting its status as a significant player in the industrial equipment distribution landscape. With an annual revenue reaching $16.10B, these valuation and earnings figures indicate that the company commands a premium position in the market, supported by a broad geographic footprint and a diverse product portfolio that spans general construction and industrial equipment.

财务健康

The company reported a total revenue of $16.10B and generated a net income of $2.49B over the trailing twelve months, while EBITDA stood at $4.46B, highlighting a significant gap between gross earnings before interest and taxes and the final bottom line which underscores a substantial cost structure comprising interest expenses, taxes, and operational overhead. The firm produced $1.93B in free cash flow, a metric that demonstrates strong financial flexibility allowing for debt servicing, capital expenditures, and potential strategic acquisitions without immediate reliance on external financing. Profitability analysis reveals a gross margin of 38.4%, an operating margin of 25.2%, and a profit margin of 15.5%, where the gross margin indicates efficient cost of goods sold management, the operating margin reflects effective control over operating expenses, and the profit margin illustrates the final net earnings available to shareholders after all costs. Regarding liquidity and solvency, the company holds $459.00M in cash against total debt of $15.67B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 174.73%, which characterizes a highly leveraged balance sheet typical for capital-intensive leasing models. Short-term liquidity is assessed by a current ratio of 0.94, suggesting that current assets slightly fall short of current liabilities, indicating a reliance on debt maturity management or operational cash conversion to meet obligations. Return metrics show a return on equity of 28.4% and a return on assets of 8.7%, revealing that management generates high returns relative to shareholder equity despite the high asset base, effectively utilizing financial leverage to amplify shareholder value.

估值评估

Valuation metrics indicate a trailing P/E ratio of 19.69 and a forward P/E of 14.39, where the notable difference implies that the market expects earnings growth to accelerate significantly in the coming year to justify the lower forward multiple. The price-to-book ratio stands at 5.35, indicating that the stock trades at a substantial premium over its net asset value, suggesting investors are pricing in intangible assets, brand strength, and future growth potential rather than just tangible book equity. Alternative valuation measures include a price-to-sales ratio of 2.98 and an EV/EBITDA of 14.17, which suggest the market values the company's revenue generation and earnings power at levels consistent with high-quality industrial peers but with a premium for its dominant market share. Price action over the last year has seen the stock reach a 52-week high of $1021.47 and a low of $533.45, with the current trading price situated between these extremes but closer to the lower end relative to the high, reflecting recent market consolidation. The beta of 1.68 indicates that the stock exhibits higher volatility than the broader market, moving approximately 68% more than the market average during periods of fluctuation, which implies greater risk and potential reward for equity holders compared to low-beta defensive stocks.

Growth & Income

Recent performance data shows a revenue growth rate of 2.8% and an earnings growth rate of -1.9% year-over-year, indicating that earnings are currently contracting relative to top-line growth, which implies that the company is managing through a period of margin compression or one-time costs rather than organic expansion. As a dividend payer, the company offers a yield of 1.0% with a payout ratio of 18.5%, suggesting a highly sustainable dividend policy given that the payout covers only a small fraction of earnings, providing a buffer for maintaining dividends even during earnings fluctuations. This conservative payout strategy allows United Rentals to retain a significant portion of earnings to fund operations and debt obligations rather than distributing them, aligning with its capital-intensive business model. The overall growth and income profile presents a mature industrial equity with modest revenue expansion, a slight earnings contraction in the current period, and a stable, low-yield dividend supported by strong free cash flow generation and a robust balance sheet despite high leverage.
