公司概述
Smithfield Foods, Inc. operates as a leading producer of packaged meats and fresh pork products across both the United States and international markets, utilizing a diversified operational structure that includes Packaged Meats, Fresh Pork, Hog Production, and Other segments. The company functions within the Consumer Defensive sector, specifically inside the Packaged Foods industry, a classification that suggests its products are essential items subject to relatively stable demand patterns despite broader economic fluctuations. With a market capitalization of $11.47B and an annual revenue of $15.53B, the firm demonstrates significant scale, supported by an employee base of 34,500 individuals dedicated to its production and distribution networks. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Smithfield Foods holds a substantial position in the food supply chain, reflecting a mature business model capable of generating substantial cash flows while maintaining a robust operational footprint.
财务健康
The company reported a revenue of $15.53B over the trailing twelve months, generating a net income of $987.00M and an EBITDA of $1.66B, which highlights a cost structure where operating expenses consume a significant portion of top-line growth before reaching the bottom line. Free cash flow stands at $442.88M, providing the organization with considerable financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures, service debt obligations, or pursue strategic acquisitions without relying heavily on external financing. Profitability metrics reveal a gross margin of 13.4%, an operating margin of 9.6%, and a profit margin of 6.4%, indicating that the business retains a moderate portion of sales after covering the substantial costs inherent in meat processing and logistics. On the liability side, the company holds $1.54B in cash against $2.40B in total debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 33.91% that suggests a relatively conservative balance sheet structure rather than an overly leveraged one. Liquidity is further evidenced by a current ratio of 2.97, which signifies a strong ability to meet short-term obligations with existing current assets. Management effectiveness is underscored by a return on equity of 15.2% and a return on assets of 7.2%, demonstrating efficient capital deployment and asset utilization relative to the capital invested.
估值评估
Valuation multiples indicate a trailing P/E ratio of 11.62 and a forward P/E of 11.14, implying that the market anticipates a slight acceleration in earnings per share as the stock moves from current levels to the forward projection. The price-to-book ratio sits at 1.69, suggesting that the market values the company at a moderate premium over its tangible book value, reflecting intangible assets or growth prospects embedded in the share price. Alternative valuation metrics such as a price-to-sales ratio of 0.74 and an EV/EBITDA of 7.58 provide context for the stock's valuation relative to sales revenue and operational profitability, pointing to a valuation that is generally aligned with industry peers for capital-intensive sectors. Price action over the last year has ranged between a 52-week low of $18.55 and a high of $29.27, with the current market price trading near the upper end of this historical range given the recent earnings expansion. Although the beta is listed as N/A in the available data, the absence of a specific volatility metric precludes a direct comparison to broader market swings, though the low P/E multiples typically suggest a value-oriented profile rather than a high-growth volatility profile.
Growth & Income
Growth dynamics are characterized by a revenue growth rate of 7.0% year-over-year and a significantly higher earnings growth rate of 54.5% year-over-year, indicating that profitability is expanding at a much faster pace than top-line sales, likely driven by margin expansion or one-time benefits. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 4.3% with a payout ratio of 39.8%, a coverage level that appears highly sustainable given the robust earnings growth and strong free cash flow generation. The low payout ratio leaves ample room for the company to reinvest earnings into growth initiatives or return additional capital to shareholders via buybacks if strategy dictates, rather than being constrained by high dividend obligations. Overall, Smithfield Foods presents a profile of steady top-line expansion coupled with aggressive earnings improvement, supported by a reliable dividend stream that appeals to income-focused investors while maintaining financial discipline.
