公司概述
Otter Tail Corporation operates as a diversified industrial entity primarily engaged in electric utility services, manufacturing, and the production of plastic pipe across the United States. The company functions within the Industrials sector, specifically classified under the Conglomerates industry, which denotes its diversified business model spanning multiple distinct operational segments including Electric, Manufacturing, and Plastics. Otter Tail demonstrates a substantial operational scale with a market capitalization of $3.81 billion, an annual revenue of $1.30 billion, and an workforce comprising 2198 employees. These valuation metrics and revenue figures indicate that the company maintains a significant market presence, positioning it as a mid-to-large-cap entity capable of sustaining operations across diverse economic conditions within the utility and manufacturing landscape.
财务健康
Otter Tail reported a total revenue of $1.30 billion over the trailing twelve months, generating a net income of $275.89 million and an EBITDA of $462.82 million. The substantial gap between the $1.30 billion revenue and the $275.89 million net income reveals a robust cost structure where operating expenses and taxes consume approximately 78.8% of top-line sales, yet still allow for a healthy bottom-line profit. However, the company's free cash flow stands at -$26,483,250, indicating a current period where capital expenditures or operational cash outflows exceed cash generated from operations, which temporarily constrains immediate financial flexibility for internal reinvestment or acquisitions. Despite the negative free cash flow, the balance sheet remains conservative with $440.50 million in cash and investments offsetting a total debt load of $1.13 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 60.73. Liquidity management is strong as evidenced by a current ratio of 2.28, suggesting the company holds more than double the current assets needed to cover its short-term liabilities. Furthermore, the Return on Equity of 15.6% and Return on Assets of 5.7% highlight that management is effectively utilizing shareholder capital and the total asset base to generate returns, although the ROA suggests that asset utilization efficiency is moderate relative to the equity returns.
估值评估
The stock trades with a trailing P/E ratio of 13.85 and a forward P/E of 16.95, implying that the market expects earnings to be suppressed in the near term or that future growth rates are anticipated to be lower than historical averages, causing the forward multiple to expand relative to the trailing multiple. The price-to-book ratio is recorded at 2.04, indicating that the market values the company at a 104% premium over its tangible book value, reflecting expectations of intangible assets or future growth potential not captured on the balance sheet. Alternative valuation metrics such as a price-to-sales ratio of 2.92 and an EV/EBITDA of 9.71 provide context that the company is valued at nearly three times its sales, which is typical for utility-related conglomerates, while the EV/EBITDA suggests the enterprise value relative to operating earnings is moderately priced for the sector. Regarding price momentum, the 52-week high was $90.74 and the 52-week low was $71.79, with the current price trading at approximately 53% below the 52-week high and roughly 5% above the 52-week low based on the provided metrics. The stock exhibits a beta of 0.49, signifying that the security is significantly less volatile than the broader market, offering relative stability during periods of high market fluctuation.
Growth & Income
Otter Tail's financial trajectory shows a revenue growth rate of 1.6% year-over-year alongside an earnings growth rate of -5.4%, indicating that earnings are contracting while revenue expands slowly, which often points to margin compression or one-time expenses impacting the bottom line faster than top-line gains can materialize. As a dividend payer, the company offers a yield of 2.4% with a payout ratio of 32.1%, a metric that suggests the dividend is sustainable as it is covered by earnings multiple times over, providing a cushion even if earnings decline further in subsequent periods. The combination of modest revenue expansion and declining earnings growth, paired with a conservative payout policy, characterizes an income-focused profile rather than a high-growth trajectory. Overall, the company presents a profile of stable utility cash flows supported by a manufacturing and plastics division, though current earnings dynamics suggest a need for operational efficiency improvements to reverse the negative earnings growth trend.
