Bedrijfsoverzicht

Gentherm Incorporated is a leading provider of thermal management and pneumatic comfort technologies, operating within the consumer cyclical sector specifically under the auto parts industry. This classification indicates that the company's performance is intrinsically linked to the fluctuations in consumer spending and the global automotive manufacturing cycle. The enterprise operates a substantial global footprint with a workforce of 14,174 employees, serving markets across the United States, China, Germany, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Mexico, Slovakia, Romania, Japan, the United Kingdom, and internationally. With a market capitalization of $898.02M and annual revenue of $1.50B, Gentherm represents a mid-sized player with significant operational reach but limited liquidity depth compared to large-cap automotive suppliers. These valuation figures suggest the company occupies a niche position where specialized engineering capabilities are valued, yet the scale is still sensitive to macroeconomic downturns and shifts in automotive demand patterns.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported revenue of $1.50B over the trailing twelve months, generating net income of $18.29M and EBITDA of $157.35M. The substantial disparity between the $1.50B revenue and the $18.29M net income reveals a cost structure characterized by high operating expenses, resulting in a thin conversion of sales into bottom-line profit. Free cash flow stands at $60.11M, which provides the organization with a baseline of financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures or weather periods of reduced operating leverage. When analyzing profitability metrics, the gross margin sits at 24.2%, indicating that manufacturing costs consume a significant portion of sales, leaving a moderate buffer before operating expenses. The operating margin of 6.9% and the profit margin of 1.2% further highlight the operational intensity required to generate returns, where every additional dollar of revenue contributes only minimally to net earnings. The balance sheet presents a leveraged profile with total debt of $246.82M against cash reserves of $160.83M, reflected in a debt-to-equity ratio of 34.27. Despite the leverage, the current ratio of 1.92 indicates a robust short-term liquidity position, ensuring the company can meet its immediate obligations without distress. Return on equity is recorded at 2.7% and return on assets at 4.9%, metrics that suggest management effectiveness is currently constrained by the low profit margins rather than capital inefficiency.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

Valuation multiples for Gentherm show a trailing P/E ratio of 49.66 contrasted sharply with a forward P/E of 9.37. This extreme divergence implies a market expectation of a dramatic turnaround in earnings, where future earnings are projected to be significantly higher than historical levels to justify the current price. The price-to-book ratio of 1.24 suggests the stock trades at a modest premium over its book value, reflecting intangible assets or growth prospects rather than pure asset backing. Alternative valuation metrics such as the price-to-sales ratio of 0.60 and an EV/EBITDA of 6.23 provide a different perspective, suggesting the stock is priced conservatively relative to sales and enterprise value despite the high P/E. The 52-week high is $39.48 and the 52-week low is $22.87, placing the current trading range within a wide band of volatility typical for cyclical auto parts stocks. The beta value of 1.34 indicates that the stock's price volatility is 34% higher than the broader market, making it a more aggressive holding during market expansions and more susceptible to declines during contractions.

Growth & Income

Recent performance data indicates a revenue growth rate of 8.5% year-over-year while earnings growth has declined by 81.2% year-over-year. This divergence reveals that earnings are growing significantly slower than revenue, pointing to a period where volume gains are being offset by declining profitability or one-time charges. As a non-dividend payer with a payout ratio of 0.0% and no dividend yield, Gentherm does not distribute cash to shareholders but instead retains earnings for internal reinvestment. This reinvestment strategy aligns with the company's need to maintain high levels of R&D and manufacturing capacity in a capital-intensive industry. The overall growth and income profile is defined by expanding sales volumes that have not yet translated into proportional earnings growth, while the absence of dividends prioritizes capital retention over shareholder cash distributions.
