Présentation de l'entreprise

DTE Energy Company operates within the Utilities sector, specifically focusing on the Regulated Electric industry, providing essential energy-related services and infrastructure to its customer base. The firm manages four distinct business segments including Electric, Gas, DTE Vantage, and Energy Trading, with its Electric segment alone serving approximately 2.3 million residential and commercial customers by generating, purchasing, distributing, and selling electricity. This utility giant employs a workforce of 9,650 individuals and holds a substantial market capitalization of $30.95 billion, reflecting its established position in the regulated market. The annual revenue of $15.81 billion underscores the company's significant scale, indicating that it functions as a major pillar in the regional energy landscape with a diversified operational footprint.

Santé financière

The company reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $15.81 billion, generating a net income of $1.46 billion and an EBITDA of $3.62 billion, which highlights a cost structure where operating expenses and taxes consume a significant portion of top-line growth. The analysis of margins reveals a gross margin of 30.3%, an operating margin of 15.9%, and a profit margin of 9.2%, demonstrating the company's ability to maintain profitability despite the capital-intensive nature of the utility business. However, the free cash flow stands at -$1,746,625,024, a figure that suggests the company is currently utilizing cash reserves to fund capital expenditures or debt obligations rather than accumulating liquid assets for discretionary spending. On the balance sheet, DTE Energy holds $208.00 million in cash against a total debt load of $26.29 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 213.60, which characterizes the firm as highly leveraged with a capital structure typical for regulated utilities. Liquidity concerns are present as the current ratio is recorded at 0.80, indicating that current liabilities exceed current assets and the company relies on operating cash flows to meet short-term obligations. Return on equity stands at 12.2% while return on assets is 2.9%, metrics that reveal management's effectiveness in generating shareholder value relative to the equity base and total asset deployment respectively.

Évaluation de la valorisation

Valuation metrics indicate a trailing P/E ratio of 21.13 and a forward P/E of 17.90, suggesting that the market expects earnings growth to accelerate in the coming year as the forward multiple is lower than the trailing multiple. The price-to-book ratio is 2.51, which implies that the market values the company at a significant premium over its book value, likely reflecting the value of its regulated monopolies and long-term customer contracts. Alternative valuation measures such as a price-to-sales ratio of 1.96 and an EV/EBITDA of 15.76 provide additional context, showing that the company trades at a moderate multiple relative to its sales and enterprise value. The stock price has fluctuated within a 52-week range defined by a high of $154.63 and a low of $123.69, and without a specific current price provided in the facts, the valuation context is strictly bounded by these historical extremes. The beta is 0.43, indicating that the stock exhibits low volatility and tends to move less than the broader market, offering a defensive profile for portfolios sensitive to market swings.

Growth & Income

Growth dynamics are captured by a revenue growth rate of 28.9% and an earnings growth rate of 25.5% year-over-year, where earnings are growing at a slightly slower pace than revenue, implying that cost controls or margin compression may be moderating the impact of top-line expansion. As a dividend payer, DTE Energy offers a yield of 3.0% with a payout ratio of 63.1%, a level that generally appears sustainable given the strong net income generation, though it leaves room for reinvestment in the capital-intensive grid. The high debt-to-equity ratio of 213.60 and negative free cash flow suggest that while dividends are maintained, the company prioritizes capital allocation for infrastructure maintenance and expansion over aggressive share buybacks. Overall, the company presents a profile of steady income generation through dividends coupled with moderate revenue and earnings growth, characteristic of a mature regulated utility seeking stable cash flows rather than rapid expansion.
