分析
公司概述
Patterson-UTI Energy, Inc. operates as a comprehensive service provider within the energy sector, delivering essential drilling and completion services to oil and natural gas exploration and production entities across the United States, Canada, Colombia, and international markets. The company functions through three distinct segments: Drilling Services, Completion Services, and a third segment referred to as "Dri," reflecting its diversified operational scope in the upstream oil and gas industry. With a market capitalization of $4.31B, an annual revenue of $4.83B, and an employee base of 7,900, the firm demonstrates significant scale within the specialized oil and gas service landscape. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Patterson-UTI Energy is a substantial market participant, possessing the infrastructure and workforce capacity to serve multiple jurisdictions and maintain a significant footprint in the global energy supply chain.
财务健康
The company reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $4.83B, while posting a net income of -$93,635,000 and an EBITDA of $900.45M. The substantial disparity between the high revenue figure and the negative net income reveals a cost structure where operating expenses, including depreciation, amortization, and interest, consume a significant portion of top-line earnings before reaching the bottom line. Despite the net loss, the company generated positive free cash flow of $409.76M, which suggests a degree of financial flexibility to fund operations or capital expenditures without relying solely on external financing. The gross margin stands at 24.2%, indicating the proportion of revenue remaining after direct production costs, while the operating margin of -2.4% and profit margin of -1.9% highlight challenges in covering overhead and interest costs relative to sales. In terms of liquidity and solvency, the company holds $418.51M in cash against $1.28B in total debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 39.71 which characterizes a leveraged balance sheet reliant on equity financing to offset obligations. The current ratio of 1.64 indicates that the company holds assets sufficient to cover short-term liabilities 1.64 times over, suggesting adequate short-term liquidity. Furthermore, the return on equity is -2.8% and the return on assets is -0.4%, metrics that reveal management has not yet generated positive returns on the capital invested or deployed in assets during the trailing period.
估值评估
Valuation metrics for Patterson-UTI Energy present a complex picture, with a P/E Ratio (TTM) listed as N/A due to negative net income and a Forward P/E of -47.96, implying that the market is pricing in significant future earnings recovery or that the current earnings trajectory does not support a traditional multiple. The price-to-book ratio is 1.34, indicating that the market values the company at 34% above its book value, which may reflect expectations of future asset appreciation or intangible value not captured on the balance sheet. Alternative valuation measures such as the price-to-sales ratio of 0.89 and an EV/EBITDA of 5.75 provide context, suggesting the stock trades at less than one dollar of sales and at a multiple that is low relative to peers with positive earnings, though the negative forward P/E complicates direct comparisons. The stock's price volatility is contextualized by a 52-week high of $11.57 and a 52-week low of $5.10, with the current trading price situated within this range but subject to market fluctuations. Additionally, the beta of 0.73 indicates that the stock's price volatility is historically 27% lower than the broader market, suggesting it acts as a lower-volatility proxy for the energy sector during periods of market stress.
Growth & Income
Revenue growth year-over-year is recorded at -1.0%, while earnings growth is listed as N/A due to the reported net loss, meaning there is no positive earnings growth to compare against revenue contraction. The company maintains a dividend yield of 3.5% with a payout ratio of 213.3%, a situation where the dividend paid exceeds the net income generated, which inherently questions the sustainability of the payout given the current negative earnings structure. Because the net income is negative, the company technically cannot be classified as a sustainable dividend payer in the traditional sense, as it is distributing cash flow rather than earnings, effectively reinvesting operational cash flows to service the dividend while managing its debt load. The overall growth and income profile is characterized by revenue contraction and a high dividend yield that is currently unbacked by positive net income, presenting a unique risk-reward dynamic for income-focused investors analyzing the balance between cash flow generation and dividend obligations.
