公司概述
Kirby Corporation operates a specialized fleet of domestic tank barges throughout the United States, primarily focusing on the transportation of bulk liquid products via the Mississippi River System and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. This business model places the company firmly within the Industrials sector, specifically the Marine Shipping industry, where it provides essential marine transportation services and towing vessel operations that support the broader supply chain logistics. The company currently commands a market capitalization of $7.60B and generates annual revenue of $3.36B, supported by an operational workforce of 5233 employees. These valuation and revenue metrics indicate that Kirby Corporation has established itself as a significant player in the regional bulk liquid transportation market, reflecting a substantial asset base and established market presence relative to smaller regional shipping peers.
财务健康
The company reported total revenue of $3.36B over the trailing twelve months, resulting in a net income of $354.52M and an EBITDA of $773.82M. The significant disparity between the $3.36B revenue figure and the $354.52M net income reveals a cost structure where operating expenses, including fuel, labor, and maintenance, consume a considerable portion of top-line earnings before arriving at the bottom line. The company generated $293.96M in free cash flow, which provides a critical measure of financial flexibility for capital expenditures, debt repayment, or potential strategic acquisitions without relying on external financing. Profitability is assessed across three key margins: a gross margin of 34.1%, an operating margin of 15.7%, and a profit margin of 10.5%. These margin levels indicate that while the company retains a healthy portion of sales revenue after direct costs, operational leverage and management efficiency are required to convert gross profits into operating and final net profits. Regarding liquidity and solvency, the company holds $78.78M in cash against total debt of $1.13B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 33.55, which suggests a leveraged balance sheet typical for capital-intensive shipping industries. The current ratio stands at 1.53, indicating that the company possesses 1.53 times more current assets than current liabilities, suggesting adequate short-term liquidity to meet its obligations. Return on equity is reported at 10.6% while return on assets is 5.4%, metrics that reveal the efficiency with which management utilizes shareholder equity and total assets to generate profits, with the ROE being higher due to the financial leverage applied to the balance sheet.
估值评估
Valuation multiples show a trailing P/E ratio of 22.37 compared to a forward P/E of 17.10. The difference between these two metrics implies that the market expects earnings growth in the future that would justify a lower multiple relative to current earnings, or conversely, that current earnings may be elevated relative to expected future performance. The price-to-book ratio is 2.25, indicating that the stock trades at a market premium of 2.25 times its book value, which often reflects intangible assets, brand strength, or expectations of future growth beyond the tangible asset base. Alternative valuation metrics include a price-to-sales ratio of 2.26 and an EV/EBITDA of 11.18; these figures suggest that the market values the company at approximately 2.26 times its sales and 11.18 times its enterprise earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, providing different perspectives on value relative to revenue generation and cash-flow-like earnings. The stock has a 52-week high of $143.29 and a 52-week low of $79.52. Without a specific current price provided in the data to calculate a precise percentage, the trading range defines the recent volatility, with the stock fluctuating between these bounds over the past year. The beta value is 0.83, which means the stock's price volatility is lower than the broader market, moving with less intensity than the overall market index during periods of rising or falling prices.
Growth & Income
Revenue growth year-over-year stands at 6.2%, while earnings growth year-over-year is reported at 128.1%. Earnings are growing significantly faster than revenue, which implies a potential expansion in operating leverage or a one-time event boosting net income that is not yet reflected in the top-line sales figures. The company does not pay a dividend, evidenced by a dividend yield of N/A and a payout ratio of 0.0%. Since the payout ratio is zero, the company retains all of its net income for reinvestment into its barge fleet, operational expansion, or debt reduction rather than distributing cash to shareholders. This reinvestment strategy aligns with the capital-intensive nature of the marine shipping sector, prioritizing asset growth and operational scaling over immediate income distribution to investors. Overall, the growth and income profile is characterized by strong earnings expansion relative to revenue, coupled with a zero-dividend policy that channels capital back into the business operations for future capacity building.
