公司概述
Cohu, Inc. operates as a provider of semiconductor test equipment and services, deploying metrology automation systems, micro-electromechanical system test modules, and related inspection solutions across the United States, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and international markets. The company functions within the Technology sector, specifically targeting the Semiconductor Equipment & Materials industry, which serves as a critical upstream component for global chip manufacturing and validation processes. As of the latest data, the company holds a market capitalization of $1.67 billion, generates annual revenue of $452.96 million, and employs 2,777 individuals across its global operations. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Cohu maintains a significant footprint in the specialized semiconductor testing niche, positioning it as a mid-to-large-cap entity with substantial operational scale relative to its peer group in the equipment sector.
财务健康
Cohu reported a trailing twelve-month revenue of $452.96 million, yet recorded a net income loss of $74.273 million and an EBITDA loss of $10.241 million, revealing a cost structure where operating expenses and non-operating costs significantly outpace gross profitability before interest and taxes. Despite the accounting loss, the company generated free cash flow of $48.08 million, which provides essential financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures, repay debt obligations, or pursue strategic acquisitions without relying on external equity financing. The company's margin profile presents a complex picture, with a gross margin of 42.7% indicating strong pricing power or cost control on core hardware sales, contrasted sharply by an operating margin of -11.2% and a profit margin of -16.4% that highlight substantial overhead burdens or one-time charges impacting the bottom line. The balance sheet exhibits a leveraged structure with total cash holdings of $483.98 million against total debt of $330.87 million, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 42.12%, suggesting the company carries significant financial leverage relative to its shareholders' equity. Liquidity is robust, evidenced by a current ratio of 6.88, which indicates the firm possesses ample short-term assets to cover its immediate liabilities and withstand potential market downturns or supply chain disruptions. However, the return on equity stands at -9.0% and the return on assets is -3.4%, metrics that reveal management's current challenge in generating positive returns on the capital base deployed in the business.
估值评估
The valuation metrics for Cohu present a divergence between historical and future expectations, with a trailing P/E ratio listed as N/A due to the lack of recent profitability, while the forward P/E stands at 28.83, implying market expectations for significant earnings normalization in the coming fiscal periods. The price-to-book ratio is calculated at 2.11, suggesting the market prices the company at a 111% premium over its tangible book value, potentially reflecting confidence in future cash flow generation despite current losses. Alternative valuation measures provide further context, with a price-to-sales ratio of 3.69 and an EV/EBITDA of -147.13, indicating that the market is valuing the firm primarily on revenue multiples and cash flow generation rather than current earnings power. The stock has traded between a 52-week low of $13.03 and a 52-week high of $35.74, and given the current market capitalization and forward P/E context, the stock sits within a range that suggests high volatility relative to its historical trading bands. The beta value of 1.24 indicates that the company's stock price is expected to be 24% more volatile than the broader market, reflecting the cyclical nature of the semiconductor equipment industry and sensitivity to global chip demand fluctuations.
Growth & Income
Cohu demonstrated robust revenue growth of 29.9% year-over-year, whereas earnings growth is listed as N/A due to the recent net income loss, implying that top-line expansion is currently decoupled from bottom-line profitability as the company navigates a transition period. The company does not pay dividends, evidenced by a dividend yield of N/A and a payout ratio of 0.0%, which confirms that all available earnings and cash flows are being retained and reinvested into research and development, production capacity, or operational restructuring rather than distributed to shareholders. This reinvestment strategy aligns with the nature of a growth-stage equipment manufacturer that prioritizes market share acquisition and technological iteration over immediate income distribution to investors. The overall growth and income profile characterizes Cohu as a high-revenue-growth, non-income-generating entity that relies on future earnings recovery to validate its current market valuation and attract capital from growth-oriented investors.
