公司概述

Black Hills Corporation operates as a regulated utility entity in the United States, providing essential electric and natural gas services through its specialized subsidiaries. The company functions within the Utilities sector, specifically classified under the Utilities - Regulated Gas industry, where operations are subject to federal and state regulatory oversight that typically ensures stable pricing mechanisms. On a significant scale, the entity manages a market capitalization of $5.63B while generating annual revenue of $2.31B and employing 2,795 individuals across its operational footprint. These valuation figures indicate that the market assigns a substantial size to the company, positioning it as a major player capable of influencing regional energy supply dynamics despite the capital-intensive nature of its regulated business model.

财务健康

The company reported revenue of $2.31B and net income of $291.60M over the trailing twelve months, with an EBITDA of $816.50M, highlighting a substantial gap between total revenue and net profit that reflects the heavy cost structure inherent in utility generation, transmission, and distribution. Free cash flow stands at -$279,312,512, indicating that capital expenditures currently exceed operating cash generation, which constrains immediate financial flexibility for share buybacks or aggressive debt reduction. The gross margin is 38.5%, while the operating margin is 26.2% and the profit margin is 12.6%, suggesting that operating expenses and taxes significantly erode gross profits to reach the final bottom line. Total cash holdings of $182.80M are heavily outweighed by total debt of $4.70B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 120.36% which characterizes the balance sheet as highly leveraged rather than conservative. The current ratio of 1.35 demonstrates adequate short-term liquidity, showing that current assets exceed current liabilities by a reasonable margin to cover obligations due within a year. Return on equity is 8.0% and return on assets is 3.2%, revealing that management generates returns on shareholder capital that are moderate for a utility but that asset efficiency remains relatively low due to the massive asset base required for regulated infrastructure.

估值评估

The trailing twelve-month P/E ratio is 18.60 compared to a forward P/E of 16.01, implying that the market expects earnings growth to eventually lower the valuation multiple or that current earnings are higher than projected future performance. The price-to-book ratio is 1.46, indicating that the stock trades at a 46% premium over its book value, which often reflects the intangible value of regulated monopolies and the stability of their cash flows. Alternative valuation metrics include a price-to-sales ratio of 2.44 and an EV/EBITDA of 12.48, suggesting that the market prices the company based on both revenue stability and earnings power relative to its enterprise value. The 52-week high is $75.87 and the 52-week low is $54.92, placing the current trading price within a range that reflects recent volatility but still below the annual peak. The beta is 0.71, which signifies that the stock price exhibits lower volatility than the broader market, making it less sensitive to general equity market swings.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year is 6.4% while earnings growth year-over-year is 0.9%, indicating that earnings are growing significantly slower than revenue, which may point to margin compression or one-time expenses impacting profitability more than top-line expansion. As a dividend payer, the company offers a dividend yield of 3.8% with a payout ratio of 67.9%, a level that requires monitoring given the negative free cash flow and high debt levels to ensure long-term sustainability without cutting payouts. Since the company pays dividends rather than reinvesting all earnings into growth, the payout ratio must remain manageable to cover the high debt service requirements associated with the $4.70B debt load. The overall profile presents a mix of modest earnings growth and a substantial dividend yield, typical for mature utility companies prioritizing shareholder returns over rapid expansion.
