Bedrijfsoverzicht

Waste Connections, Inc. operates within the Industrials sector as a leading provider of non-hazardous waste collection, transfer, and disposal services across the United States and Canada. The company serves a diverse customer base that includes residential, commercial, municipal, industrial, and exploration and production clients, while also offering landfill disposal and recycling capabilities. This operational model positions Waste Connections as a significant player in the Waste Management industry, essential for maintaining environmental compliance and sanitation infrastructure. With a market capitalization of $41.31B and annual revenue of $9.47B, the company demonstrates substantial scale supported by a workforce of 24,214 employees. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Waste Connections commands a premium position in its sector, reflecting robust market share and the critical nature of its services within the broader economic framework.

Financiële gezondheid

The company reported revenue of $9.47B and net income of $1.08B for the trailing twelve months, while EBITDA reached $3.01B. The significant gap between revenue and net income, specifically a profit margin of 11.4%, reveals a substantial cost structure where operational expenses and taxes consume a majority of gross receipts before reaching the bottom line. Despite these costs, the business generated $1.17B in free cash flow, which provides the financial flexibility to fund capital expenditures, service debt obligations, or pursue strategic acquisitions without relying heavily on external financing. The gross margin stands at 42.4%, indicating efficient pricing power or high-margin service components relative to total sales, whereas the operating margin of 18.0% reflects the effectiveness of controlling overhead costs before interest and taxes. The balance sheet shows a total debt of $9.15B against cash reserves of $45.97M, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 110.92%, which characterizes a highly leveraged financial structure typical for asset-heavy infrastructure businesses. Liquidity is constrained by a current ratio of 0.62, suggesting that current liabilities exceed current assets and indicating a reliance on long-term financing or operating cash flows to meet short-term obligations. Management effectiveness is highlighted by a return on equity of 13.4% and a return on assets of 5.4%, showing that the company generates solid returns on shareholder capital relative to its total asset base.

Waarderingsbeoordeling

Valuation metrics for Waste Connections show a trailing P/E ratio of 38.75 compared to a forward P/E of 26.12, implying that the market currently prices in a significant expected expansion in future earnings growth. The price-to-book ratio of 5.01 indicates that the stock trades at a substantial premium over its book value, reflecting intangible assets, brand strength, or expectations of future cash flow generation. Alternative valuation measures such as the price-to-sales ratio of 4.36 and an EV/EBITDA of 16.75 provide additional context, suggesting the company is valued heavily relative to both sales and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. In terms of trading range, the stock reached a 52-week high of $199.78 and a low of $154.90; without a specific current share price listed in the facts, the valuation context relies on these bounds to frame historical volatility. The beta of 0.61 demonstrates that the stock's price volatility is historically lower than the broader market, suggesting it may act as a defensive holding during periods of market turbulence.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year is recorded at 5.0%, while earnings growth data is not available in the current dataset, preventing a direct comparison of earnings expansion versus revenue expansion at this specific point in time. The company distributes a dividend yield of 0.8% to shareholders, with a payout ratio of 31.1% that appears sustainable given the generation of $1.17B in free cash flow against a net income of $1.08B. This payout ratio indicates that the company retains a significant portion of its earnings to reinvest in the business or pay down debt, rather than distributing all profits. Overall, the financial profile combines steady single-digit revenue growth with a stable dividend policy and a leveraged capital structure, presenting a value proposition centered on infrastructure stability rather than explosive earnings acceleration.
