Descripción de la empresa

Griffon Corporation operates within the Industrials sector, specifically focusing on the Building Products & Equipment industry, where it manufactures and markets residential and sectional commercial garage doors alongside other consumer and professional products across the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, and international markets. The company's operational scale is significant, evidenced by a market capitalization of $3.28B and annual revenue reaching $2.54B, supported by a workforce of 5,100 employees. These valuation and revenue figures indicate that Griffon Corporation maintains a substantial presence in the building products market, suggesting a well-established business model with diverse geographic reach. The combination of a multi-billion dollar market cap and robust revenue stream positions the entity as a major player capable of influencing supply chain dynamics within its specific niche of home and building solutions.

Salud financiera

The company reported revenue of $2.54B for the trailing twelve months, with a net income of $44.65M and an EBITDA of $519.50M, highlighting a distinct gap between total revenue and net profit that reveals a cost structure where operating expenses, including taxes and interest, consume a significant portion of earnings before interest and taxes. While the EBITDA of $519.50M suggests strong underlying operational cash generation before financing costs, the net income of $44.65M demonstrates the substantial impact of interest expenses and other deductions on the bottom line. The free cash flow stands at $228.64M, which indicates that the company generates sufficient liquidity to cover capital expenditures and debt obligations, providing a degree of financial flexibility despite its high leverage. Griffon's margins reflect a specific cost reality: a gross margin of 41.8% shows effective production efficiency, an operating margin of 17.5% indicates healthy control over operating costs relative to revenue, yet a profit margin of 1.8% underscores the heavy burden of non-operating costs or interest expenses on final profitability. In terms of leverage, the company holds $95.28M in cash against total debt of $1.55B, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 1421.36, which characterizes a highly leveraged balance sheet rather than a conservative one. Liquidity remains robust with a current ratio of 2.56, signaling that the company possesses more than twice the current assets necessary to meet its short-term liabilities. Return metrics further illustrate the financial dynamics, with a return on equity of 26.5% and a return on assets of 13.0%, revealing that management is effective at generating returns on shareholder capital despite the heavy debt load, though asset returns are moderated by the high leverage.

Evaluación de valoración

Valuation multiples for Griffon Corporation present a mixed picture, with a trailing P/E ratio of 69.82 contrasting sharply with a forward P/E of 12.20. This substantial difference between the trailing and forward P/E implies that the market expects a dramatic and significant improvement in earnings trajectory over the coming year, potentially driven by a reduction in interest expenses or operational efficiencies. The price-to-book ratio stands at 30.16, which indicates that the market is pricing the company at a massive premium over its book value, reflecting high expectations for future growth or unique intangible assets not captured on the balance sheet. Alternative valuation metrics provide further context, with a price-to-sales ratio of 1.29 and an EV/EBITDA of 9.12; the EV/EBITDA suggests a reasonable valuation relative to cash earnings despite the high enterprise value, while the price-to-sales ratio indicates investors are willing to pay a premium for each dollar of sales generated. The stock's recent trading range is defined by a 52-week high of $97.58 and a 52-week low of $63.92, meaning the current price sits somewhere within this band, reflecting recent volatility. The beta value of 1.25 indicates that the stock exhibits higher price volatility relative to the broader market, moving more aggressively than the average stock in response to market fluctuations.

Growth & Income

Growth metrics show a revenue growth of 2.6% year-over-year and an earnings growth of -5.4% year-over-year, indicating that earnings are growing slower than revenue, specifically shrinking in the current period, which implies that fixed costs or interest expenses are outpacing top-line expansion. As a dividend payer, Griffon offers a dividend yield of 1.2% with a payout ratio of 75.2%, a figure that suggests the payout is potentially fragile given the negative earnings growth and highly leveraged position, as paying three-quarters of earnings in dividends leaves little room for error in a deteriorating profit environment. Given the negative earnings growth, the sustainability of the dividend is under scrutiny, as the payout ratio exceeds the rate at which profitable earnings are being generated. Overall, the company's profile combines modest top-line expansion with significant headwinds in profitability and a high dividend yield that may not be sustainable under current leverage and earnings contraction conditions.
