公司概述

Westlake Corporation operates as a manufacturer and marketer of performance and essential materials, alongside housing and infrastructure products across a global footprint that includes the United States, Canada, Germany, China, Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, and international markets. The company functions within the Basic Materials sector, specifically the Specialty Chemicals industry, which implies a focus on producing specialized chemical compounds and materials essential for various industrial applications rather than bulk commodities. This entity employs a workforce of 14,600 individuals and holds a market capitalization of $15.47 billion, reflecting its status as a significant player in the global chemical supply chain. With annual revenue reaching $11.17 billion, these valuation and revenue metrics indicate that Westlake possesses substantial scale and market reach, positioning it as a major contributor to the specialty chemicals sector despite facing specific cyclical headwinds in recent periods.

财务健康

The company reported total revenue of $11.17 billion for the trailing twelve months, while net income stood at -$1.50 billion and EBITDA reached $834 million, highlighting a significant divergence between top-line revenue generation and bottom-line profitability. The substantial gap between revenue and negative net income reveals a cost structure where expenses, including high operating costs or one-time charges, have overwhelmed earnings to the extent that the profit margin turned sharply negative. Free cash flow for the period was $62.25 million, suggesting that despite operational losses, the company maintains a degree of financial flexibility through cash generation or capital conservation measures. Margin analysis shows a gross margin of 7.3%, an operating margin of -5.4%, and a profit margin of -13.5%, indicating that while the core production costs are relatively contained compared to sales, operating inefficiencies or elevated SG&A expenses are severely impacting overall profitability. On the balance sheet, the company holds $2.93 billion in cash against total debt of $6.41 billion, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 68.96, which characterizes the financial position as highly leveraged rather than conservative. The current ratio stands at 2.24, indicating that the company possesses more than twice the current assets needed to cover short-term liabilities, suggesting adequate short-term liquidity despite the leverage. Return on equity is -14.5% and return on assets is -0.5%, metrics that reveal management effectiveness is currently compromised by significant losses relative to the equity base and total asset pool.

估值评估

Valuation metrics present a complex picture with a trailing P/E ratio marked as N/A due to negative earnings, while the forward P/E is projected at 36.01, implying that the market expects earnings to recover significantly in the coming year to justify the current price. The price-to-book ratio is 1.76, suggesting that the market prices the stock at a premium of 76% over its book value, which could reflect expectations of future margin expansion or asset revaluation. Alternative valuation multiples include a price-to-sales ratio of 1.39 and an EV/EBITDA of 23.31, which provide context on valuation relative to revenue and operational cash flow respectively, indicating a rich valuation multiple despite current earnings deficiencies. The 52-week trading range spans from a low of $56.33 to a high of $120.88, and based on the forward P/E of 36.01 and the historical range, the stock is currently trading within a range that requires careful observation of its position relative to these extremes to assess potential upside or downside pressure. The beta value is 0.75, indicating that the stock's price volatility is approximately 25% lower than the broader market, suggesting it may act as a defensive position or move less dramatically during market swings compared to high-beta peers.

Growth & Income

Revenue growth year-over-year declined by 10.9%, while earnings growth is N/A due to the negative net income, indicating that earnings are not growing faster than revenue but are instead contracting alongside the top line. As a dividend payer, the company offers a yield of 1.8% with a payout ratio of 69.4%, which presents a sustainability concern given the negative net income and high leverage, as distributing nearly 70% of earnings when those earnings are negative relies on cash flow and reserves rather than actual profit. The reliance on a high payout ratio in the absence of positive net income suggests the company is drawing from cash reserves or other capital sources to fund dividends rather than reinvesting earnings into organic growth. Overall, the growth and income profile is characterized by declining revenue, negative earnings, and a dividend payout that may be pressured by the current lack of profitability and high debt levels.
